I called TA today to see what they recommended, they said 1/2 to 3/4 Larry I forgot you had aluminum heads, but still, after pondering this, Im going to back off a quarter turn for a half turn preload. Also asked 'bout my other 16 bearings, they're not in yet
The way the weather has been and looks like it will be, you'll probably have your bearings before we get a dry day!
I gave up waiting, I looked at the old bearings on the other set of rockers, they looked fine. I assembled them on the new shaft, and on the engine they went, drivers side, so when they do finally come in, I can still easily replace 'em. Installed intake, and valve covers so far, gonna do a bit more tomorrow after work.

Finished up Changed my "test" 0/20 oil for Valvoline VR1 10/30 Removed my adjustable oil pressure regulator, and installed a blue spring (70 psi) and the original factory nut and new gasket, no more adjustable regulator for now. Installed my mini starter also, more room around headers and trans. lines, that's the ONLY reason I went "mini" I trust the huge by heavy original starter more, hope this mini lasts Fired it up, initially the lifters were noisey, and it had a smooth idle, and vacuum was higher than it should be. Gave it some throttle, they got quiet, vacuum went down to where it should be, and everything got better (normal) and I had my slight lope back. Havent had it out on the road yet, but I can tell the Johnsons are definitely quieter, silent actually.
It seems better, but I wont say for sure till I get it out on the highway for a run. The 70 psi blue spring I put in did just that, 70 psi cold idle, my front gauge read 72 psi, my rear read 70 psi. If I brought the rpm up a bit, it would go past 70 psi as expected. At 600 rpm idle in gear with hot coolant BUT just warm oil (not driven yet) I have 22 psi I removed the adjustable regulator, I don't like it, I've used it for years, too much monkey motion, gotta use a certain spring, or risk binding, crank it in, crank it out, crank it all about. Put the blue spring in DONE
Yes the high volume pump is still in for now. Its probably not needed tho, I may remove it down the road.
Took it for a ride down the highway today, see how the Johnsons do. Cold start they were quiet, after my run, the were still silent I like 'em My change to the blue 70 psi spring and removal of the adjustable oil pressure regulator seems to have helped with my oil psi dropping as I accelerate on the highway. I don't know If I had the wrong spring in it with the adjustable regulator, to long. too short, too many coils, not enough, adjuster too far out or in. I'd crank it in and cold pressure would sky rocket, I want it simple, so I went back to the big nut and a blue spring. First gauge is front reading. Second is rear of main oil galley. Speedo is dead nuts accurate. New tach showing rpm at 70/71 mph. Above oil psi is at this speed/rpm
I run at 2200 rpm with my 2004r trans locked up at that same speed. It looks like you are good to go, oil pressure real good and sounds good too. What was the oil pressure in drive at idle after run
