That's some strange "surface rust" on the roof. Looks like something was spilled on it. Like lacquer thinner.
OK V--8 Buick People: If this thing is solid with no rust and it runs excellent, most things functioning....IT'S A DEAL!!! Mitch
Obviously the paint prep was lousy and the stuff came off in sheets. Be careful; the metal on that roof may be crustier than it looks as a result of a paint stripper not being cleaned off properly before the new paint went on. If that's the case, it continues to react and changes the chemical makeup of the steel. Otherwise, that car would hit all of my buttons.
OK V-8 Buick People: I'm revising my assessment on this 65 Riv. First, I did what so many DON'T DO.....and I DID NOT read the post carefully. Next. I DID NOT carefully examine the pictures. It has a rusty floor pans....which means there's more areas that are suspect due to it's repaint. And as always.... 1. Ya gotta see it in the flesh 2. Ya gotta really test drive it. 3. Ya gotta put it up in the air. I work on these heaps all the time and they ain't cheap any more and that's why one really needs to LOOK CLOSELY. Dual quads are meaningless if this thing needs so much work it would put it outta budget. Mitch
Kinda odd to me. There is a local 64 in Michigan also dual quad car but with the similar roof issues. Agree with a horrible paint prep.
If you can see rust, there's a good chance there is rust you can't see! It is sad to see this one as a rust victim, could be a beautiful Riviera! Bob H.
Well, if I had money and provided the numbers on it make sense, I'd buy it and put it through a total restoration, I've always wanted one of these, and fully restored 65 Rivieras are starting to get really expensive. Now the caveat; if the floors are completely shot, and there's a lot more rust, then no, it wouldn't be cost effective. But it would be worth a look if one was serious about doing a resto on a desirable Rivi. Right about now though, all I can do is pull out my pockets and laugh.
Is there anyone near this? I don’t need another car but, hard to pass up a factory dual quad 65 Riv. Shot him an email but, have not heard back.
Got some more information on it. The floors are shot and the trunk pan is shot with rust extending to the wheel wells. I have a few pictures he sent me but, internet is crap where I'm at and they will not upload. Paint is also bubbling on the quarters. Was originally a "light yellow" and restored 20 years ago in Texas. Was purchased out of Oregon and it sat outside there for 7 years. Still a rare car that deserves respect and restoration but, I think it may be smarter to start with a more solid car. I did see floor pans and trunk pan are readily available for the 63-65 Riv's.
