hey guys, having problems with my aem , air fuel ratio gauge.. have tried new gauge, new oxygen sensor , wiring pretty simple. hot and ground wire.. problem is it should register 14;7 once the ignition switch is on. position . it register a lean 16;8.... once the car is cranked ,it goes from 16;8 , back to around 13;0.. then back to 17 lean.. and eventually lean enough, and gauge goes flat.. and shuts down. ..aem doesn't was no help.. no exhaust leaks , all bolts are tight.. etc. and help or ideas are appreciated . so I can get this pure stocker 396 . 4 speed nova back rollin down track again,,,chris Teed
I have the AEM gauge. It doesn't read anything until the engine starts. I have a Q-jet with no choke. It will read lean until it warms up, occasionally going out of range (----) unless I feather the gas. After the engine warms up, it will idle low 13's, and at steady state highway cruise, it will read 14.6-15.1.
My Innovate motorsports O2 will read 20.9 reading ambient air which is correct. Is there a calibration procedure?
with the help of one of the more experienced AEM tech ,the problem was two wrongly calibrated gauges from the factory. the tech said once the key is turned to on position , without cranking it should read 14;7/14;8 . this test should be performed with the oxygen sensor plug in to harness, but not installed into the exhaust.. the 16;8 reading shows that the gauge is not calibrated right, AEM took care of me, and asked that I sent both gauges back , so they could recalibrate them for me.. back going now. Chris
Hi larry, thanks, i seen that on you tube also, but one of the techs at AEM , said it didnt matter if it was 16;8 ... apparantly some of there techs need further training..
