Hi Mike, I have a list of known 1970 GS 455 4 speed car from members who respond to this thread. The only benefits is that these cars are very rare and the owners are a very small minority with these cars. I have spread sheet with the list of owners and there contact information. There was a plan to start a web site but there are not enough cars for me to spend that kind of money. I only have 17 car in the Registry. Two convertibles and the rest hard tops. Thank You!
Ok. Well mine is a 1969 but otherwise it would meet your requirements. I have heard of a GS registry before but I guess this is not the one for my year car. Which forum would be the one post for more info? Thanks for responding. Cheers, Mike
Good evening, I purchased a 1970 GS 455 4 speed car in the Minneapolis Minnesota area around December of 1991. I have the original build sheet with window stickers and Solan documentation. Silver Mist, Hard Top Coupe, Built at Leed’s Plant in Kansas City Missouri. Problems; 1) Can not find build date on any of the documents. Help please...... 2) Missing the original M20, It had an automatic in the car when I purchased. Thank you, Bob.K
Just picked up a future 1970 4-speed GS455 project. 19/A, 185 interior, non A/C, 3.64 rear, manual steering, power drums. Have build sheet and has original engine and M21 trans.
Are you looking for any existing cars that fit the criteria, or just board members? I've seen a few for sale &/or sent some people here from FB, but not sure if they even posted. There was/is an orig. 4-sp convertible for sale in Philly area and the 3-sp in SF Bay area. IMHO, I'd include any, with wahtever information can be had, since the stated purpose originally was to find out how many are still in existence and, for what reason I can't imagine, not every GS owner out there in on this board.
Hi Bob, Congratulations on having a rare 70 GS 455 4-speed car. I have add your car to the list I have. I also have a Leeds car. To the best of my knowledge you should have the build date on the build sheet. Look at the top left corner right under the job sequence number you should see number (10)[ sched. no date.] the sched number is the run of the that day and then you should have the month and day for example o3 -03 March Third day, this would be the build date to the best of my knowledge. Ron
Hi Scott, I will add your car to the list also. Get car and good luck on the project! Very rare to find original engine and trans. Nice! Ron
Hello, Please have anyone contact me here on any 1970 GS 455 4 speed car or three speed. I fully realize that we properly not find every car out there, that should be a given, but to have a list of known cars will give us an idea of how rare they are and a best guess on how many still exist. The rare cars are usually the most expensive and if you have a list or count that helps make your point. (documentation). If this help the value of these cars and or all Buick's I am will to do my part even though it's small. Thank you for your response! Ron
Thanks Ron, after looking at my build sheet unfortunately that section was left blank or is just faded. But I was able to reach out to Brittany at the Sloan documentation, as she did the original research for me. The build date was 12/16/1969. Do you know what my best resource would be to find the right M20 that came originally in my car. I know that I will probably never find the original one, but I would at least like to find one for the correct year and gear ratio. Thanks again Ron!
Although the sales code (or RPO code - can't remember which) says M20, the trans. you need is an M-21 (close ratio), which is all that Buick used.
View attachment 379733 Thank you for your input! It’s just pretty confusing trying to figure this out, as the M20 is listed as an option that was ordered... Wow, now I’m really confused! LMAO!
DBS is correct, the RPO code is M20 but the car came with an M-21. And it would need to be a 1970 with the 10 spline input and 27 spline output. The 71's are 3/4" longer and are fine spline/ large output. And prior to 1970, the shift forks have studs not threaded holes for bolts.
Bob, You will find just about everything you need to know about your Buick on this website. All you have to do is just post the question. I can see you already found some help! We have a lot of great people here! Ron
1970 GS 455 4 speed convertible. Silvermist with black top & black interior. Build date is 3rd week of April. I do have documentation from Wayne Roberts. I will try to get pics this week.
