I put 17’s on the 65 in part for all the choices for wheels and tires. First time I ever bought anything over 15”, but I’m happy with the look and ride. Now I’m used to it and my 14” road wheels look puny.
Looking good there. Nice red with a great T/R combo to match! Most folks want more tire side wall when choosing a combo. On the 65-68 a wheel up to 16 inches will provide a decent amount of side wall and still look more like a hot rod. 17&18 would likely give the car a protouring look considering the car isn't lifted and mud tires are installed lol.
Hey guys and gals.............I have 255/60/15 on the back of my 66 Skylark. I am old school, I want the widest I can put on her without rolling the wells. I love the "steamroller" look, that's what everyone had when I was a teenager. I have air shocks on the rear, of course I love the high rear rake! I think the wheels are an 8". What would the widest tire I could fit, and what backspace. I'm open to a wider wheel. Thanks in advance!!!
Those look real nice... Do you have a photo of them on the car yet??? I'd love to see a photo... I'm going to go with 17" and I'm looking at the Bond Speed Wheels blacked out Icon but I think I like those better... ...
Hi Scott, Would love to see the car on the ground with those, Are you at stock ride height and what is the back spacing for both. I'm really liking these. Nice..
When looking for wheel and tire combos for the Electra I found this page: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/t...lectra_225_custom_limited_4-door_hardtop.html Probably jump to other models from here. Scroll down the page for a ton of wheel/tire size combos and the difference in rolling radius to original size. I settled on 18 x 8 at all four corners American Racing Torq Thrust II wrapped in 235/55-18 Kumho Crugen rubber.
245/60/15 on the back, 215/65/15 on front. I like this combo. Hoping to go with stock ralley rims soon and will need new tires so I may go wider in the front. Maybe 245/60/15 all the way around. No good pictures of them at the moment.
Nice stuff!!! Looking to go with 235r60-15 up front and 275r60-15 on the back on my 71 GS with 15x7 and 15x8 Cragars.....the rears have either a 4 or 5 inch backspace. Which backspacing is better, want to be sure these are right before I order or they'll be very nice planters in my wife's garden, lol...and just to be sure, we have a 4 3/4 lug pattern? Sorry, for the dumb questions but it has been a LOOOOOONG time since I owned my last GS and I'm trying to get back up to speed, so to speak...thanks!!!
For a 70-72 Skylark or GS, I would go with 5" BS on an 8" wheel. 4 1/2" BS will work, but 5" is probably better. Yes, 4 3/4 lug pattern.
