As many saw at the 37th annual Buick GS Nationals in Bowling green this weekend, A familiar old racecar showed up that was a regular back in the late 80s through the late 90s. Mike Garrison took on the year and a half project to get Fred Catlin's car back on the track! Mike drove Fred's machine running a 9.61 et @ 141 mph. I am sure we will be seeing much much more of this historic Buick in the near future! BEAUTIFUL work by High Torqure Racing!
BIG thanks to Mike and the team! I finally was able meet Mike this year. There was a constant crowd and that car looks GREAT! This is such a wonderful thing for the Buick community to see again, such a legend! More important to me, being a Hoosier friend of Fred's, is for him to get to see his 69 again. This is such a wonderful story so I have great respect and gratitude for everyone in our Buick community that made this happen. Also, I've known about this from day one. I've had to keep it quiet after the pickup happened. So I'm glad to no longer have that secret's burden! Troy
VERY NICE! Like to hear the whole story. I remember it well..... 30 years ago in BG. What about the C/SA 70 the Rick Patterson drove for Fred?
I searched through my old GS Nationals pictures and found these. Im gonna say late 80's? I thought that car was soooo badass. Didn't it have a 528 in it with "Buzilla" on the valve covers?
Jim thanks for posting this! We brought Fred down with us to the GS Nats and he was very excited to see the 69 again! There was certainly a lot of buzz around the car and Fred was proud! He told me this was the best GS Nats ever! A big thank you to Mike Garrison and all who pitched in to make this happen!
Here is a picture that I took at the 1989 GS Nats. It looks like Fred's 69 with a different hood scoop and without the lettering...
Mike did an excellent job with this restoration, as he does all his jobs. Here is a couple shots of the '70 that I have.
