I need a new dual exhaust for my 455 but I am interested in the stock way of things. What are the real gains with the X or H? Its not the extra money.
A lot of people like the Dynomax Super Turbos. They've got a nice sound and flow really well. They aren't raspy.
Absolutely, and if you let other people make that choice for you, well, the best thing I can say is you are being lazy. No one knows what your personal tastes are, what sounds good to them, you might not like, and the reverse is also true. Go listen to other people's exhaust, and if you like what you hear, ask them what they are running. That is how I chose Magnaflow. I wanted a muffler that wasn't too loud or droning at cruise, yet screamed when you got on it. When I had my Walker 17749 mufflers (2 1/2"), that is what I had. The Magnaflow mufflers are like that. I have a 3" system with an X pipe. I am very happy with it, but you might not like it. I have never heard a Flowmaster muffler that I liked. That's me though. Go do your homework and decide.
OK, so what is your criteria for choosing an exhaust system/muffler? You mean to tell me that if the system is really loud and scares little kids/old ladies/small animals, and you can't hear yourself think and end up with a headache every time you drive your car, you wouldn't mind?
Then get a mandrel bent 2 1/2" system and use the 17749 Walker mufflers. Want even more quiet? Get a Gardner exhaust stock system with 2 1/4" head pipes and 2" tailpipes.
I'm thinking 2 1/2 aluminized no H or X pipe with 18" Magnaflow as that's the one the shop stocks. Flowmaster was the loader choice. She promised not to tell my wife the price. Is there anything on the exhaust that is unique to a Stage 1?
LOL, me too! I tried glass packs back in the 80's, I HATED THEM! They sounded like a kid farting bubbles in the bathtub!
My brother has glass packs on his 65 Wildcat. I've been trying to get him to change them out for years. Cliff
This is the system I have on my 73 Stage1, and my 65 Gran Sport... Mine are set up with an X pipes, and around town, they're almost too quiet! They do (Like Larry described) scream under WOT, and according to Jim Hand the long case Walkers flow the best out of just about any muffler. Cause I'm looking for ET, I wouldnt change a thing if I did it all over but if I didnt race the car I think I'd sub out the short case Walkers. I have them on my Pontiac and to me, they just have the right sound.....
