Im looking for something as close to stock, and available in a white wall, that came factory on my sedan. My vehicle is parked in a garage 3 hours away and as memory serves the original tires where an outdated measurement by todays standards anyways. TIA
Electra 225 had 8.00 x 15 = P225/75R15 OR 235/70R15 OR 265/60R15 I put 235/75R15 on the rear of my 63 Wildcat.
My opinion is that the 225/75/15 is a better fit than the 235/75/15. I'd generally recommend those unless you have a compelling reason to go to 235/75/15 (i.e. towing, etc.). Plenty of people go with both, though. -BC
I'd have to agree; I've got 225's on my Electra and it clears the skirt better and there's no real change in speedo accuracy or ride.
Id rather stick as close to stock as possible. No towing or any special considerations to make except for the Coker white walls only come in a 235 and the Hankook Optimas only come in 225. While a purist might opt for the Cokers im leaning towards the Optimas With only 32K on the clock im not looking to put alot of miles on this anyways. More of a Sunday driver, take the kids for ice cream and a car show type deal.
I have to begrudgingly admit that the Hankook Optimos I just put on my Riviera ride pretty damn nice. They come in a 3/4" white in a 225/75-15. They average around $75 a piece too so they're pretty reasonably priced as opposed to Diamondback Classics or American Classic tires which were significantly more. The only negatives, if you can overlook them are that the black area of the sidewall has a serrated, more modern appearance. And they're made in Indonesia of all places.
Maybe one day ill spring for a more "classic" tire but this is just to get some shoes on the old gal. Its on jack stands right now wearing -what could possibly be- the original tires. It was last stickered in '83 and parked in a barn till I moved it around 2007-8 Just called my local tire shop and they quoted me ~440 OTD which I didnt think was too bad. DT is cheaper but I like helping out the small guys too.
235 have about 1 1/2" clearance to the side of the guard inner lip, easy to remove and I calculated I will still have enough room once I widen the rims a little. Can't double check measurements right now as rear suspension is out of car for new bushes.
