2-4-2017 update 'I had a couple hours this morning to complete the Front suspension upgrade. The GW upper and lower tubular arms are in, and the QA1 2x adj coilk overs are in, 'Street Sleeper' is back on the hides. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-cta-42a https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-cta-42h https://www.summitracing.com/parts/QA1-GD401-10350B https://www.summitracing.com/parts/QA1-7888-110 The set up with drum brakes needed clearance grinding of the backing plates for the lower arm to clear and allow seating of the ball joint. It also appears the lower arm restricts full turn by 1/4". Photo was before I set the shocks Compression & Rebound so both were at 0 of 16 so shes sitting lower. I do not plan to drive until aligned. I put the shims back in the upper as they were which was aligned recently, but dont want to take a chance and muck up the front tires with a drive if I don't need to. The plan is to trailer to LeSchlaab for Alignment next Saturday. Upper Arms- https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-cta-42a Lower Ams - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-cta-42h Coil Overs - https://proshop.summitracing.com///parts/QA1-GD401-10350B Cheers!
It's not exactly a "street sleeper" anymore unless the guy at the light next to you is a asleep. Your car is awesome. You must be chompin at the bit to take it racing some more. It looks great! Terror of the island.
Hello Matt, well, the Stage 2 scoop really is the eye catcher that maybe there's more there than meets the eyeo No: And, yes I am itchin to get it back on the track. It is such a thrill to run her through the gears as it makes so much torque and I hope the recent upgrades result in some 1.50 +/- 60' times and it can flirt with the 11's! Revised weight with 205 lb driver, no front sway bar = 1920lbs front / 1740lbs rear / 3540lbs total, 52% / 48% After front end alignment, next chore is to dial in the rear springs. I think the Moroso trick springs are worn out, and I have some various sets to play with / mix and match. In the process, also now can get the entire supension tuned with the UMI adjustable rear arms and the HRPartsN Stuff rear bar set up I am curious how it compares to a true four link setup for tuning. The weight balance is spot on now and I the data to compare this great tuning method for 4 link and the HRParts tuning instructions http://www.how-to-build-hotrods.com/tuning-4-link.html
4/29/2017 Update: Recap of the changes since last fall's 2.60sec -60'foot , 13.0 1/4mile @117mph: GW Tubular upper & lower front arms, 2x adj coil over QA1, front stabilizer bar off, slicks, new clutch. 40lbs lighter all by change of the front suspension. Oh Yeah! The next stop will be the track for test and tune the new set up.
4/30/2017 Update: Swapped out the black plastic 2" EDELBROCK open spacer with a 2" tappered PROCOMP red annodized (Wilson knock off) spacer . Immediately I noticed the Idle went up about 150 rpm after the swap. Adjusted idle back down and test drove. It felt a bit snappier. If anything it looks a heck of alot better than the black plastic
I swapped the orientation of the 3/4" nitrous plate and the 2" tappered spacer since the nitrous plate is open, not square bore. I was curious why idle bumped up after the initial swap from open spacer to tapered. The switch made a big difference on response and as the way it was appearantly had a nagative effect on the overall vacuum circuit. I can't wait to hit the track! Here is a great read on the subject of carb spacers. My engine picked upo 25lbs/ft torque and 25 horse just adding the 2" open spacer......hence the Stage_2 scoop. I am glad those 340/240 flowing heads flow what they do and intake is fully ported to take the additional 3/4 " of plenum the nitrous plate adds.. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/hppp-0906-wilson-manifold-carburetor-spacer/ Installing the old mud flaps next to try and get a point back to 'Street Sleeper'. The nitrous plate now sticks out as it was hidden by the dropped air cleaner before. Scotch and BUICKS!
Mark, Now that looks mighty familiar! Maybe if you drilled/ tapped the Wilson copy, you could ditch the nitrous spacer? Keep us posted with results.
Thanks Mart, I would prefer that juice is introduced closer to the carb, but, that taperred spacer might be a challenge to incorporate the spray rail any higher.
Hey Matt, yeah, a turdo ricer and/or the new "muscle car guy" still sees a faded blue POS, but may pause with the hood scoop as that is "points against" for sure. My GTO buddy also thinks the rear street meats are also a give away, but I disagree again with the aforementioned breed of observer, as lots of slow, heavy, old dirt rails are jacked up over tired POS. Otherwise, most folks wouldn't think much of it from the outside as the car has a rather mellow sound with the "small RV cam and low compression", until I get into the foot feed then it's all kinds of pissed off..Street Awake! Don't pop the hood! Cheers!
Maybe you can get some 300 emblems for the fenders. Years sgo, I know chevy guys used to change out the 427 tags for 350's
My daughter is walking graduation Saturday so we'll be in Pullman. I have been a proud and supporting Coug dad, but we're both glad it's almost over! Cheers!
No joke, sign me up!!! Mark, the "not so sleepy sleeper" is looking good! I dig the understated walk softly and carry a big stick motif.
