What works? The NAPA 1258 valve does not work. I hate the 2 second pressure delay and lifter rattle on start up.

Not sure Andy. You can see the anti drain back valve on any oil filter. Just look at the opening. See that rubber ring behind the small holes along the circumference? That's the anti drain back valve. Maybe if you inspect and compare different filters, you can maybe see a difference in stiffness or size of the ring, not sure. One thing is for sure, it may be anti drain back, but I suspect nothing can prevent all drain back. I often wonder why no one has come up with a right angle attachment for our filter mount, something that would enable the filter to mount straight up. That would keep oil in the filter. My SC3800 in the Riv is like that. I fill the filter at every oil change.

I usually let the car crank over for a few moments before I stab the gas to set the choke. That usually works ok. Otherwise it's rattle time

Reading this thread last night, http://theamcforum.com/forum/napa-gold-1258_topic60782.html it seems the valve in the wix/napa filter and all versions of it, is just junk. I like your right angle adapter idea but just looked at my car and at least on my 350, the filter will interfere with the idler arm if a right angle adapter was used.

I will use an NOS PF-24 if nothing else. I read the new PF-24 valve is also junk.

My last oil change in my 350 GS I used a Purolator Pure1 oil filter from Advance auto, physically its smaller than a PF24 and larger than a PF51 (AC PF 47 larger equivalent)
It has the red gasket and red anti-drainback valve, and yellow crinkle finish on the canister.
No problems with lifter noise on start-up. Doesn't leak, works well:TU:
I was a bit apprehensive about this filter being its smaller than the PF24, but another member on here did some looking, (thank you) and said that's what their using now for the PF 24 replacement.

How about the Wix filter? Is that the same as the NAPA filter? The only other thing I can recommend is the System 1 oil filter. Supposedly, it offers the least resistance to flow if that makes a difference. It features an anti drain back valve that is removable. I've run it with and without. Can't say I noticed any difference. Synthetic oil flows better than any conventional oil especially at low temperatures. Are you using a good 10W/30 oil, or something thicker?

The bosch filters all have excellent antidrainback valves. I use them in every vehicle i have ever owned.

    Yep, NAPA filters are Wix.

But are the napa filters built to wix spec?

Yes, the "Gold" line would be the exact.

I recently used a Wix 1258 on my SBB and I've noticed it takes a couple extra seconds in the morning to build oil pressure. I had previously used a stash of PF24 filters that I bought years ago. Probably 6-7 years ago I used a NAPA 1258 and it took extra time to build pressure as well.

I guess it's time to add Wix filters to the JUNK list.
