i picked up a 68 GS 400 4 speed that is roached. i want to remove the shifter handle before i take the body off the frame and was wanting to know the best way to remove the push pins in the shifter handle.
Doug, If the shifter handle isn't too rusty, you can use flat feeler gauges to get the handle out. I have also used a small putty knife to release the catch holding the handle in the shifter. HTH Larry
Putty knife was the answer. No way a feeler gauge was getting down into this rusty shifter. Even then, took some soaking in Kroil & then persuasion to get the handle out. Wound up holding the handle in the vice (w/copper) and tapping the shifter body down off the handle. That was after trying a slide hammer on the handle while holding the shifter.
