Hello everyone I am still looking for my dads old race car. It is a white 1969 GS California has a 455/400 driveline (last I known) It was originally a gray vinyl top...last owner was in Malvern, Ohio and I am told he sold it to a guy around the cleveland area. It was for sale once probably 7-8 years ago for 9900...If I remember right the rear fenderwells were altered to allow a taller slick (I think??) Was running high 11s low 12s...now fully street legal. I know this is a long shot but I am hoping someone might know someone...my dad has helped me so much in the past few years and now that I am in a very well off position I want to buy this back for him. Any help or leads whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Justin Amelung
If you're still in Ohio and have the VIN/ license plate #, you could go down to the local dmv equivalent. Tell them that there is a car you are interested in purchasing and the owner gave you the VIN/ plate infoand you want to know if it has a clear title or if there are fees due. That will let you know if the car still exists and if it is in Ohio. If not, some states have a title lookup online (I know IL does). You could try them to eliminate those possible locations. Again, having the VIN is paramount to any search. A few months back I found that my mom's old '74 VW from IL (that she sold in 1984) was junked five years later. That ended my search for that car. Hopefully you will have better luck. Wayne
Great story! I sincerely hope that you are able to locate it. It reminds me of the new commerical then came out recently when the kids locate and buy back their Dads Impala S.S. I LOVE that commercial!
The search is very difficult due to the fact that I am 8k miles away...after a lot of dead ends and what not I found a 73 on the board (which is my Dads favorite year Buick) and ended up purchasing it....money might not buy happiness but a quick Buick will Thank you guys for the info regarding locating vehicles I didnt know you could do that.
Hopefully the story might end like this one: http://jalopnik.com/5858944/watch-t...her-with-his-beloved-1965-chevrolet-impala-ss
Kind of a similar story actually...Dad sold the car to take us to disney world and finish the garage. At the time I thought woohoo disney world ou: There is also a small part of me that doesnt want to keep digging just in case I find out it was in a house fire or hit by a drunk driver or something bad. I am really happy with what I bought though...this is the first time I bought a car online and I am 8k miles away. I am very confident that it will get the job done...if it doesnt well me being home for christmas should do the trick haha. A lot hinges on tomorrow as I have a 3rd interview with another company and will basically cut my "deployed time" down about a year to reach my personal and financial goals...so a lot going on and this all just makes it that much more exciting.
Did this car ever reside near Toronto? Was a BB California there maybe 25 years. Have seen this California....but not lately.
Not that I know of...I forget where we picked the car up from but I do remember riding in the backseat turning down the road (before it was somewhat fast) He raced it at Magnolia and Quaker City. I actually dug up some old vhs tapes last time I was home and quickly saved them to a dvd...some cool ass memories thats for sure. Its sad to say but I am getting old haha.
This California was owned by Chris ---- & was a Stage1 converted car (from a 350) and was white with a Black vinyl roof. Blk bucket seat int. 4 speed??? Had a well known driveshaft incident, while racing. May have involved "Tweety Bird." Unclear on other car. Mid '80s or early '90s.
Korrie- I purchased a white/ black 69 GS Cali out of Oregon or Washington State some years back from ? that was a former racer. Quarter lips were rolled and pushed 'out' for wider tires. There was an electric fuel pump mounted in the trunk with 2 bungs welded into the fuel tank for AN fittings. Also, had repro 'Stage 1' hood emblems on it uzzled: Was told it was once an 11 second car...
Sure sounds like the same car, someone needs to check with Dave Mongeon. He sure knows this car and also "Tweedy Bird." As do I....just wish another Canuck from Ontario would confirm cause lots know these 2 cars.
The owner in malvern was a guy by the name of Bob Mace. He sold it to a guy up in norther ohio I believe cleveland. I cannot think for the life of me where my Dad bought it though...Pictures are hard to come by as since then my parents have moved and I am not sure where they might be. If I remember right it was for sale once at the Norwalk Buick race that Sonny Seal crashed his 69 a few years ago.
You need to locate Chris Rose from Ontario. He had a white California with Black top that he converted to a BB. Was a 4 speed???? Am sure he and Sonny were involved in the "driveshaft incedent" at Cayuga Ontario....mid '80s. Pretty darn sure "Tweety Bird" threw the shaft and nicked Chris's front fender. Not a big deal but.....white car had just been painted. Now I just need a verification from Ontario and/or Ohio resident who also was a witness...... there were lots there. Back in the mid '80s.:Smarty: :Smarty:
Interesting because there was a dent on one of the fenders when dad bought it...however his was a gray vinyl top. Wasnt a 4 speed though.
Dark gray or faded black vinyl top......after 25 years memory can blur. Am certain this was Chris Rose's car. 50 buck donation to board by me or you...depending on info outcome. Deal? <<4 spd????? I was not sure, is all>>
