Found one today for sale. Engine is not in car, but comes with it. Body is a little rough. I don't know anything about these, but if somebody is interested, I can get you the information. Mark.
Back in the day, i used to buy fix and sell stock Vegas. At one point I had 7 of them at once, one with a 305 Chevy. That was pretty quick. This is a Cosworth, so it's the hatchback. Any other info? If GM had stuck with the old iron inline 4, you'd probably see more of these on the road. That aluminum 4 was a real POS.
I built a '73 wagon 4 gear with a bunch of parts from Clifford and she would scoot. Complete with shag carpet in the cargo/lounging area:eek2:
I don't know much. The engine is in the guys shop, and I saw it today. It seems to be complete. He says there were just over 1400 produced in 76 and this one has a production number on the dash.
I'm looking behind me to make sure the wife ain't watchin'... Does this car have the ENTIRE smog control suite intact? Here in sunny Cal, that will be required for registration. They stopped rolling the years at that point for exemptions, so '76 and newer require ALL equipment. If that stuff is missing, it will cost more than the guy might be asking. Then, I'd have absolutely no interest. Otherwise, let's talk. What's he asking?
He is asking $2000. I didn't look at details since I wasn't interested, but thought somebody here might be. I can ask him or give you his number if you want to talk to him. Nice guy. I'd be glad to inspect anything and send pictures or whatever you would need.
I ALWAYS loved Vegas. I had 2 of them. Neat little cars. I HOPE to have a V-8 Vega one day once all my other projects are done!!
I'm with you all the way on that one! I've got a thing for vega's also. My old vega had a meltdown with the aluminum engine. I would love to have another one with a V8 and a four speed.
I helped my old neighbor put a hot 383 sbc in a cosworth vega he had. That thing was a riot to drive (but forget about ANY traction.... if it woulda hooked it wouldve been outragious though!) I dig em'!! :3gears:
My Friend has a dragrace Hatchback Vega 74 I believe. If I put the engine of my Buick in that Vega it would be running 9.90s ET all day even uphill! His car is setup really well, has always good traction with his 32x14.5x15 slicks.
I had a cosworth vega . it drove just like a regular vega except it was a little bit faster. they had the same issues as regular vegas and rusted just as easily. dont miss it a bit
My high school car was a 72 Vega Hatch with a .060 283 and th350 lost its life on a fence chasing a Vette through a decreasing radius curveou: I helped a friend with his 72 400 SBC 4 spd 12 bolt 411 gears. That car was scary fast but it needed a full frame and never got it. The trailing arms had to be welded back in every week:3gears:
Yes, and unless they are the boxed trailing arms for the F41 suspension with the stabilizer bars, they will bend real easy when you power brake with an SBC engine.
My buddy had a "clone" we put together "back in the day." The car was missing the letter "a" in the front emblem when we got it so We knocked the letter "a" out of all the emblems and called it the "Veg". Nothing like a built Cheby V-8 in these little cars to scare the bejesus out of you and really piss off a lot of people street racing.....BACK IN THE DAY:laugh:
