Yep.. Lots of stuff happens really fast. It's hard to look at all of the gauges and the road too.. Hell it was probably a month before I knew that the 1-2 shift was happening at 5200.. Trying to watch the road, wideband, boost gauge, fuel pressure, tach, and make sure the meth is spraying.. All while pulling .8 Gs .. Oh.. and watching the G-tech too... Start with a good wideband.. Start by watching nothing but the wideband. At WOT anything higher than 12 or so get off the gas immediately. I bought a cheap methanol kit and set it to spray at low boost just for insurance while I got this thing dialed in.. Now I'm getting brave.. Look to my thread and I'll add some info.. Good luck. I know you'll be back with a 350 soon.. Didn't you buy a complete engine kit with FORGED pistons???? I'm still running the hypers but I have some forged and will eventually transition to them.. Well maybe.. These work great. Maybe I'll see how far I can push them..
You are not wrong Jay. The order I placed with flalander never went through. I gave them my credit card details and then my bank issued me another card with different numbers so I guess they didn't run the card untill they were about to ship? Everything happens for a reason I guess, and now that I've stumbled across an engine builder who dynos in his shop I feel quite glad, espically since he has some buick engine building experience I'll leave the thinking up to him and go from there, I feel quite relieved. Man I was so stressed out trying to find a real meachanic who treats his work and customers seriously.
The old girl is up and running with the 502 engine and I've got to say it is a nice ride, sounds great and dynoed up no problem. I stripped the buick 350 at the mechanics today and found additional melting on two pistons on the inside left drivers side. The same side turbo is toast due to the junk going through it. The crank is in great shape and block looks good. The Mechanic is so stoked to get going on this, he wants to stroke it out and fuel inject the 350 with two throttle bodies. Only problem is he thinks the Skylark is suck a great street car now he says it would be a shame to put it back in the skylark due to the insane power it could produce. I think I might look for an early 80's Regal to put this into, Any thoughts?
If your skylark is running good I would leave it together and build a fun car! Around here it is easy to find regals for a good price.
Put the 350 in a Skyhawk. I don't know if you could even find one down under, but that'd be a bitchin' ride for sure, and talk about sleeper...
I was going to do that however the chassis re-enforcement required adds too much weight unless you go tube chassis. I decided to just add a single turbo to the V6 in my 78 Skyhawk.
Just an FYI for next time, the Accel wideband has a lean alarm. Set it for an air/fuel and rpm and it will either shut the motor off or at the very least illuminate a light on your dash.
Here is the 502, Man it goes hard. Great sound, bearly listen to the stereo anymore. I need to do the front springs though, sits pretty low now.
Here some pics of the turbo 350 engine prior to dying. This did get a lot of tongues wagging over here let me say.
Thanks for the back up there Sean, It always feels like a crap deal when you change original engines out, I really felt I was cheating doing this.
