Great news on this project well done Frank! Has any one have the kit installed, if so post some pics? Also,it would be interesting to go to your local 1/4 mile track make 3 passes with stock 68 aircleaner, than 3 passes with new RAM AIR cowl duct setup to see measurable difference in ET and MPH Hope someone can chime in on the above requests. So cool, I am tempted to get a 68 GS 400 car:Brow:
Just so happens a Buick member SOUTH of you just purchased a NUMBERS MATCHING 68 GS 400 4 speed hardtop... ou: :TU:   Burgundy Mist hardtop (no vinyl top!!!), black BENCH interior, AC, tilt, power bench, AM/FM, 3.42 posi, F-41 suspension, etc etc... Should be back here in 2-5 weeks... :TU:
To fit a 67 Skylark, Special or GS: (possibly all 64-67) You will need to use the duct flipped over so it will go toward the drivers side from the carb/aircleaner. (The 68-72 bodies work best extending to the passenger side of the air cleaner.) You will need to move the voltage regulator out of the way and cut the opening as high as you can. Remove the wiper arms and vented panel to see how much room you have to cut out for the duct opening. Just play around with the duct and do some measuring. You do not want to cut down to the very bottom at the inner floor of the air basin inside the firewall. Leave a little space for water to flow past, instead of into, the duct and air cleaner On the air cleaner, you may not be able to center the rear opening, but rather start a little left of center and cut around on the drivers side. The duct will accept a little curviture. Everyone... if your car will be sucking a lot of air, you may want to make a metal support to insert inside the duct to prevent collaps under hard suction. The Corvette duct I installed 20 years ago, was known to do this. The factory issued two or three strong spring steel wire rings to insert into the wrinkles of the duct. I just made a u out of thin sheet metal and inserted in line with the air path.
Frank, Good planning on the part of the "ring" coming with the kit. Frank, I need to know the dimensions of the hole patterns on the blueprint (firewall and air cleaner). I plan to do away with my Corvette duct but need to know where I'm at on the current holes I have already cut, and how a change to your 1968 kit will match or mismatch my current setup. I have a 1967 GS and it's all different than the factory 68-72 adaptor kit was designed for. I may have to do some body work and get another air cleaner for a fresh do-over. Thanks, GB
Frank, I'm still in on this, just been crazy here the last few weeks with a huge family crisis and working 360 miles round trip from home.
Anyone made any test paases as I outline above?? Would be really interesting to know the difference with or with RAM AIR.
I am going to try try try to be at Norwalk on Saturday. Health issues are the problem. I wil have a mock up of the ram air with me, and kits available. Frank
Interesting, ive heard of the option but never seen one.So the scoop on the 68's isn't tied into this in any way, just the cowl area? Might rethink my plans for the '69:TU:
Now you guys have me thinking & that can be dangerous:laugh: Is there enough flexibility with the rubber to mount TWO of these side by side offset a bit rather than one straight back for MORE air intake?o No:
