Hi guys, I forget which way to turn the distributor on my sbb 350 to retard the timing. Anyone help me out on this one? Thanks! --Chris
By "Right" I assume you mean clockwise, and "Left" is counterclockwise. So, the rotor turns clockwise, and turning the distributor in that direction retards the timing--correct? I think I've looked into this issue before, but I can't remember which way is which.
The distributor spins clockwise, if you're looking at it from the top. To retard timing, spin the cap clockwise. To advance timing, spin the cap counter-clockwise. When they say turn it left or right, they mean as you're looking at it from the front. -Josh
Don't listen to me, I've hardly turned a wrench in the last 5-10 years, LOL. try this chebby link: http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/howto/97438/index.html ou:
Re: Need to retard timing**UPDATE** SHE'S ALIVE!!! For the first time in the several weeks since I picked up this Skylark she can run and move on her own power! So far no evidence of head gasket leak, either. Maybe I dodged a bullet with that one. It still needs to be "dialed in" with a complete tuneup & fresh fluids, but now at least I can move it before the Street Sweeper Nazis give me another $45 ticket. :af: Thanks again guys, for the help!:TU:
Little trick for All distributors, with vacum advance, which way does it point ? IE., if it points ccw, it will "pull" the vacum advance plate, in that direction, meaning rotor turns "opposite". Hope this helps, roverman.:bglasses:
