Never been to this event but may have an opportunity this year, just looking on any tips on where to stay, eat or ? I am coming from NC and will probably arrive on Friday.
Hello Buickcub. The Carolinas Chapter of the GSCA stays at the News Inn. We socialize with each other and generally have a great time. We are also responsible for setting up the car show on Friday and parking the cars that are in the show. Come by and speak to us. We don't bite! We'd love to see you there. BTW, where are you from, in NC that is?
Mount Airy NC claims to be Mayberry because Andy Griffith was born here. Does any of your group drive up together?
Buickcub: As far as driving up, to the GS Nationals at Bowling Green (BG), together, many of the Charlotte, NC members drive up together, and often meet up with others going to BG on that particualr day. The man to get up with is our Chapter Director, John Looney, AKA "The Loon" on this board. John usually knows who is going to caravan up. Hope to see you there!!! At the Drag Strip, we have a tent set up at the side entrance to the circle track. You can spot it by the chapter banner which we put up on the fence behind the tent.
Stay on Scottsville Road out near the interstate. LOTS of good places to chow near there. About 20 mins tops to the track, beautiful drive every day thru the Ky countryside. You wont have any trouble finding Buick folk. Motel 6, News Inn, Red Roof, the parking lots will be full.
I got a room at the Microtel just off Scottville for 3 adults at $64 through Expedia. Ratings were not too bad for it. Definately a good price with a continental breakfast also. Can't wait for the 12th... Mike
If you see the red Suncoupe in Beamers avatar being towed by the cops in BG, I have some bail money stuffed under the tailgate of my F250 at the track. :Brow: Get it and come bail us out. We plan to terrorize the streets and motel parking lots of BG. :3gears: By the way, someone did the most awesome burnout ever witnessed by man in a motel parking lot last year in BG. It started at the entrance to the motel, went about 600', over two speed bumps, made a left turn, another left turn then about 600' more over two more speed bumps, made another left turn, and then a right turn back out of the motel parking lot and about 80-100' down the frontage road. I heard it was a silver T. Anyway, my point is you never know WHAT you are going to see at the biggest Buick event in the land. :bglasses:
  That sounds like what Johnno did in Norwalk at the Holiday Inn. They called the fire department because they thought the hotel was on fire:laugh:
I have a picture from yesterday I am trying to post. It is true the place is under quite a bit of water. The picture was not an attachemt so I;m not sure how to get it on here.
Looks like it may be that or more. http://turnermotorsports99.blogspot.com/2010/05/posted-5-3-10-flood-of-2010-at-beech.html
here is another link, Nashville local news showing a pic on page 2 of I-24, southeast of Nashville - the road I need to take to get to BG. http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/tenn-flood-update_2010-05-03?page=2 pic shows water up to the windows of cars on the interstate. not good.
http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=203947 Here is the thread you need to about the flooding in BG
I live here. I'll go check it out later this week and see if it is dropping at all. I am afraid it won't be good news but we can hope for small miracles.
Idea: if the track can be cleaned up by the 14th.... have the car show on the 13th at the convention center parking lot and then race on the 14th & 15th. Wishful thinking but being a Cub fan, I always am trying to be optimistic! Paul
