Regarding rod strength...I don't think I've ever heard of a stock BBB rod bending due to excessive cyl pressures. The failures I've seen are big end failures due to heat/oil delivery or too much RPM. Anyone heard of bending a stock rod due to cyl pressure? If not, a well prepped stock rod should be fine to 6500 as has already been said, even with higher HP. Dunno, that's why I'm asking. Devon
One of the big questions I still have is, are the 550 rear and 680 engine numbers above even close to being realistic? The wagon may not weigh 5500, but theres no way it's under 5000. The AC, power steering (makes the U-turn at the end more fun! ), exhaust from the trans on back, and roof rack have been removed. Two turbos, two waste gates, a GV overdrive, main girdle, and block fill have been added. Once it's all back togther I'll weigh it, then I'll know. Is it possible it's making 680 HP? o No:
FWIW, before TA started selling the Crower rods, I ordered some directly from Crower. I told them "I plan on running 900 HP and about 8000 RPM, will that be a problem?" "No problem". As far as I know, the rods I have are identical to the rods that TA sells (but I can't 100% guarantee that). However I think they are significantly heavier than the stock rods, which would require a rebalance. -Bob C.
I did resize my rod that I did buy here! 2 1/2 month for the shop to do it!! and 660 $ and I still have stock rod !
