the only hood i still have that is 74 is on carmel electra .... she has about a foot of snow on her right now. phil, are after the horizontal bumper strips? if so, are they for a car with or without bumper gaurds. the withouts are super hard to find. so Rob, are you just looking for the rubber piece that hold the fiber tubes inside the vigilite housing? you looking for used or NOS?i thought they were repopped to. the radio pic you posted looks to me like an am only unit ... didnt the 8track am player have lights to show what track you were listening to? did the 8tracks even have eject buttons?
here is exactly what my underhood light looks like.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1958...emQQimsxZ20091229?IMSfp=TL0912291810007r35323
i think my bracket is a tiny bit shorter and flat though. other than that, they would be hard to tell apart ..... well except for all the rust mine has.
If memory serves me well those fender monitors consists of 3 parts: 1)housing; which are available as repop 2)conductor; with the 3 colored lenses 3)gasket and the fibre optic cables I now only have the cables, so looking for 1,2 and 3 :beers2:
and you do know that your have to have the correct (vigilite retainable) headlight sockets and not use any silly aftermarket headlights that take new style 9000 series bulbs. also you need the correct turn signal socket with the vigilite provision.
Yes I do... those are already on the car, although the car didn't came with fender monitors, the sockets are already the right ones.
and one more thing .... when you plug into the headlight, there should be a short plastic black tube that goes between the headlight and the plug. it helps keep the fiber tube and headlight (emitter(?))from getting filthy. i like to paint the inside of the black tube with a shiny silver paint. it makes the vigilites a little brighter. as for you housings, there should be 4 parts. shell, gasket, lense, and the "block" inside that keeps the fiber tubes secure and aligned with the lense. i will try to find a pic for ya,
when you install, you will also need to drill a hole in the parking light socket to let the light get to your fiber tube... here are some blurry instrucions on installing.
I'm looking for those for a car with bumper guards. (And I'd like getting other bumper guards too, at least for the front bumper).
That I didn't know... never took a look into the socket... just noticed the 'hunchback' for the fibre optics Thanks for the photo
the socket should have 2 "hunchbacks". one for the ground wire, and one for the vigilite. the socket is sealed to keep moisture out of the fixture. once you drill the hole, you vigilites have a milti-ribbed (for her pleasureuzzled: why not mine?) fitting to reseal once you install it.:TU: i think my next car is getting the housings painted(or powder coated if possible) the same color as the car. i dont care much for the look of them on a 74-76. but i love the function. considered moving the whole process to under the rear hood lip. i have some fiber tubes from an old vette ... they are looooong.
You will need the proper templates also to correctly mount the monitors. The passenger fender one is not mounted straight, it is angled very slightly toward the driver
i might have a couple used gaskets around, they are rarely pretty. but they might spray paint nice. i might have a couple of the retainers (the block inside that holds the fiber tubes in place and aligned). it will take some diggin.
For a template I cutted out pieces of the fenders of a parts car... Just checked on the Wagon (which has the fender monitors), but couldn't see any 'off angle' on the passenger side. Will definately check that more precise later. @ Yuk: that would be great :beers2: With buying the chrome caps (repops) I should have a complete set than. :TU: Tried very often to purchase a set from derby guys, but they're not really willing to sell these small parts and rather throw them in a dumpster o No:
Just took off the monitors from the Wagon. Clearly the driver's side monitor is off angle :eek2: (towards passenger side) Looking at the holes (rough edges, 1 hole drilled in wrong place, later restored, so underneath the gasket there is one hole too much) Were those monitors dealer or factory installed?? o No: o No: (in 1972 that is) They are on the original window sticker: option U45 R3 (btw: the chrome caps have the smaller diameter pins which should be correct for the early monitor caps)
And just noticed that both are not lined up... there's a difference of 1 1/2" on which the driver's side is more to the front :eek2: and there's also a difference (about 3/4" ) of one not centered on the fender. Some drunk 'mechanic' (last name Wonder or Charles??) scr^%$wed this up bad :blast: :blast:
Where are the housings available from? Mine have a few pits in them. I think those things were pitted from the factory lol.
nice car...it has been for sale for ages. Not much in the way of options. Too much money if you ask me.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0347405851&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT FYI: as the seller stated: the ones he's selling have the larger (in diameter) pins, so you might have to drill if your originals have the thinner ones.
