having problems fitting my tremec tko to my 455. i am using TA performance's stage 2 headers with 2 1/8 primary tubes. the lower bar of the Z-bar is hitting the #5 cylinder primary tube. it is going in a 75 skylark. i could use some pictures of installs regardless of body type.
Before I bought my aluminum heads and did my 4 speed conversion I talked with Mike from TA Performance and asked him about the stage 2 headers and a manual transmission. He had a little hesitation in voice when he responded that "it should work" and that he thought they had that set up on his dad's car at one time. Since I did not get that strong 'yes it wil work" is the only reason I stuck with the Stage 1SE heads. This all related to A-bodies so you are in an even different situation with a X-body
Mine hits my Stage 2 headers too but it hits #7 tube, before i bought the heads and headers i wanted to make sure as well and i did ask Dave at the time and he told me they will clear all 4-speed stuff, well it didnt, the only thing i could do is i kinda shaved the edge of the z-bar arm that hits to try to get that extra travel. Thanks
yes i did. but im a little nervous because my pilot bushing install did not go in smoothly. i had to grind down the inside to get the tranny input shaft to slide in and i cant tell if it it is in perfectly straight, but i dont know how it could BE cock-eyed because it was such a tight fit.
What is the part number of the pilot bushing you installed? Problem is if it isn't perfect it will spin the input shaft and make it grind in 1st and reverse. Chris
well, i pulled the engine and tranny out again, and its a good thing. I took them to the tranny shop, and they say that the hole in the crank that seats the pilot bushing is out of round and it would have ruined the tranny. They believe that because so many buick engines didnt come with manual transmissions they never bothered to "ream" out the crank to fit a pilot bushing. anyone agree with this?
ive asked several times on here about the crank situation on buicks, and never got a straight answer. So youre probably right about the reaming.
There is only one part number. I have posted Dennis Manner's response to this question before as he remembers it.
I went with the shorty headers because of concern over clearance. The Z-bar gets very close to the header on my car ('77 Skylark 455, TKO-600), but doesn't touch it. I can't post pictures... Well I had links to pictures, but can't do that either
