Does anyone know of a source of plastic dash resoration? That would be plastic being rechromed. I saw one source and that would be ... http://www.cvvacuumplaters.com/ I have some mint parts that I want done correctly (dash cluster, under column cover and radio bezel) and conserned about quaility and having my mint cores switched out, AL.
I looked at there web page and I see the word exchange a lot and that troubles me, AL. Reply to this thread... Quote: Originally Posted by kevin mcculloug Check the archives for reviews of Mr. G's . We had stuff done 15-20 years ago and it's still O.K.
From what I recall having read on this site, CV Vacuum Platers does nice work and has had great reviews.
Okay, thanks for your follow up! I got a e-mail back from them and there follow up seams to be pretty good. E-mail received....... Hi Al: Sorry we missed your call, we are only open by appointment on Saturdays, for local people who may want to drop off or pick up parts. Though as much as we'd like to have two days off generally Chuck and I (the owners) are usually here on Saturdays any way so that is why I'm reading your email. As for the messages, we are heading into our busy season so that is normal to be full over the weekend. As for your parts, we we not swap out parts. We plate and return your parts. The only time we ever swap parts is if we happen to have a specific part in stock and a customer cannot wait for their part to be restored and they request a swap. Every order that is received we take detailed photographs of the parts and then we engrave the sales order on the back of the parts so we can track them through the restoration process so there is no way that you will not get your parts back. If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
In all fairness, I think Mr G's will also plate and return your part but the wait time is longer I think. Of course, the wait time may be long at CV also. In any case, I would be willing to wait quite a while if the work's good and I was getting my part back. You would need to check with Mr. G's to be 100% sure they will plate and return your part...I just remember reading something about that quite a few years ago. As I mentioned, CV is good from everything that's been posted on this site. One guy had a small defect or problem with a part they did and mentioned how well they handled re-doing it to his satisfaction. More than anything, Mr G's gets a thumbs down on their attitude from a lot of people. The plating may be fine--- maybe the fumes are getting to them. Good luck and WHATEVER YOU DO PLEASE POST A REVIEW OF THE RESULTS so everyone else will have another reference source on this site. Thanks
Thanks for your followup! I'm leaning torwards CV right now and WILL report on the board on how everything turns out. As far as time frame, not a biggie to me, just want it done right. I have found the prices are higher with CV and don't really care if the quility is there, AL.
Al, Did you get a price from them to do the job? I saw one done recently from Mr. G's and was not very impressed. It looked like they chrome painted the bezel and didn't look very good.
Hi Carl, no not as yet and found the pricing very close from what I remember but pricing is not a real selling point to me as much as a job beong done right. As I posted earlier Mr.G's has issues in quailty and P.R. I'll post some prices from CV Platters and if you get some time could you post Mr.G's? AL.:beer

There's enough people pissed off at Mr G that it warrants an entire website!?!? http://www.rechromedplastic.8m.com/ This really makes you think twice about using Mr G's They guy has even copied the look and feel of the real Mr g's website. I sure wont be using them when the time comes.
Carl, sorry I didn't post that part, the price includes paint and detail but doesn't include the woodgrain kit. I got excellent follow up with CV Platters in answering question and there follow up in excellent, AL.
Carl. you welcome! The page to look at would be....... http://cvvacuumplaters.com/GM17-20.pdf This page show the information you would be interested in, AL.
I am in the process of using CV Vacuum Platers right now. They have had my dash pieces for about 5 weeks now. They are very good in responding to any query about progress. As of a few days ago they hit a snag when their main piece of equipment broke down. They expected a week delay.I would say the overall processing time right now is about 7 or 8 weeks.I have seen their finished work and it is A1.I will let all know how I make out. My parts should be back to me in three weeks or less.Hopefully the Christmas mail gorillas will take pity on me and treat my stuff with a little TLC.Right! Rod
Rod, Please post pics if you can when you get it back. I plan on sending mine in January and plan to use CV
I'm looking at having my dash and radio bezel done and I'm going with cv . I know this is an older thread , but if you read my first reply , "had stuff done 15-20 years ago at Mr G's and its still ok " . That part is true. It seems they use to be a little more customer friendly when they were smaller . And as far as not recieving the same parts we sent, I don't think there were any 62 Wildcat armrest bases just laying around for them to exchange . They pretty much HAVE to do yours and send them back.
