Why Not Compare The Cost Of The Modifications & Add-ons Needed On The Bottom-end Of The Stock Block To The New TA Block Due (no, Really, It's Coming) Later This Year? I Think The Envelope Of The TA Block Will Be Way Beyond 600hp Plus All The Modern Benefits In Design (priority Oiling System And A Wider Array Of Cams, Rockers, Etc.), All Dressed In Stock Valve Covers. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=145833&page=2
A girdle might be a good idea. Also some improved after market rods like TA Performance sells. I'm sure there are guys making 600 HP without either of these things though.
yea i wasent sure if the rods would take it. im not going to spin the thing to the moon or anything but want it to be reliable. has anyone used the poston deep sump oil pan? just wondering if it would make a diffrence. http://www.postonbuick.com/eshop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=PE236D
I remember Denny Manner saying it wasn't so much the power level, but the RPM's that destroyed motors. If you aren't going to spin it to the moon (above 6000 RPM, then perhaps some careful stock rod preparation and quality machine work is in order. The Poston pan helps but it is no substitute for a TA girdle. Why do you need to make 600 HP?
true. i wish i could get a fiberglass hood for the thing, that and the motor wont fit under the stock hood. the cars runs high 11's right now but everyone wants to go a little faster.
I've been running Buicks for a long time with my dad, stage 2 bruno, alot of street racing. :3gears: We ran in the 10's for years on stock rods and no girdle. I myself am running an 87 Grand National that is a 30 over 11 to 1 steel headed Stage 1 motor. The motor is stock rod and no girdle, stock oil pan. Been running on the street for 4 years. I shift @ 6200 rpm and have not had motor problems. I recommend a good oil. At this time no time slip on this Grand National, I moved to North Carolina and a new 1/4 mile track is being built by September. :TU: My guesstimate of time is due to street racing a 440 Cuda and a 66 Chevelle that were running 11.50 and 11.60 @ the track. I pulled away from them in my original Stage 1 w/ this motor weighing 4120 lbs. w/ driver w/ no problem. Now I'm running the National which is holding a 13.5 tire and ladder bar set up. The car has to be 300lbs or more less than my Grand Sport. So looking for mid 10 E.T's w/ this street driven car. Again, no girdle, stock rod's, nothing fancy. Recommend T/A groove bearings and 308 solid cam.
Bruno---- Bruton Smith is building a world class 1/4 mile track in your back yard. You will have to invite the King down for the first big event.
Hey, Jim how are you? Going to try to get my father down here when I run the National. Good to hear from you. I'm wondering are you going to Kentucky for the GS National's? ~ Bruno Jr.
with your gn are you running main studs or bolts? i have all the good bearing and oil issues worked out im just not sure on the limitiations.
I never ran them before but year and half ago before i moved to N.C. I refreshed the motor and i did put main/and head studs in. I guess you can say piece of mind.
