I would to find a correct stlye 1970 radiator for my 70 Stage1 four speed. The current radiator in the car is the common replacement later style with the fill spout on an angle. Also who makes a correct sytle 1970 radiator cap, as I need one of those also. Thanks Jim
You need a CF passenger side tank and an IA driver's side. If it still has a tag it will read SJ as I recall. It is not a SW as was the conventional thought at one time. I looked through a bunch for out 70 GSX 4 speed stage 1 that is non AC. The tank codes are embossed on the back of the tanks.
Depends on the year. A 71 non AC stage 1 is a SW. I have not studied the actual cars for 70 auto, non AC stage 1 but if you look really close at the AM I think you may see how the dividing line is AC versus non AC. And if you think about it in terms of cooling capacity you will see why. The difference in 70 SJ versus SW is just the size of the passenger tank. It went from a CF to a XS size for AC while the drivers side remained an IA.
:Smarty: Jim L, Thanks for all the info, i'm sure that took alot of research. Are they that rare? I figure someone on the board would have what I need. I would like to get it be fore spring.
did you check this thread? i still have the one in the pic. if you are interested. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=136388&highlight=radiator
Jim i hanent heard back from you on if you want the rad or not. let me know i have another interested in it. $135/shipped
Jim, I have a radiator out of my 70 gs 455 4speed car. I bought the car in 1985. The radiator appears to be the original one. The driver's side tank is stamped IA, the passenger is stamped CD. This is an original numbers matching gs 455 non-stage car. Don't know if this is correct for a stage 1. If you still need one call me at 815-284-9105 central time between 9am and 2:30pm. I will email some pics. Thanks Clark.
Clark, Out of curiosity, does your radiator have a transmission cooler in it with two plugs screwed into the fittings?? Is the tag still attached to the RH tank, and if so what is the code on the tag? If Jim (JJ455) does not want your radiator, I might need it. I am currently researching the manual 3 and 4 speed cars to see if the radiators came with coolers or not, so please send pictures to winoman@sbcglobal.net if not too much trouble. Thanks.
Jim, my radiator has no cooler in the passenger tank. I also own a 1972 chevelle ss with an original radiator and 4 speed. No cooler. I have owned the chevelle since 1980 and know the previous owners back to 1974. I have never seen a cooler on a gm 4 speed car with an original harrison radiator. Both cars were built at the Kansas City Leeds plant. Hope this helps. Clark. ps, no tag.
