I know of two more 70 stage 1 Q-jets that will be hitting Ebay soon. one is a 72 date coded replacement carb and the other is a late 69 date code. both are rebuilt to exact 70 stage 1 specs by a Buick professional and will be gauranteed to bolt on and work perfectly.
Doesn't the first character represent the year (0=1970) and the next three the sequential day of the year (150th day=May 30)?
Here's another one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Buick-GSX-GS-455-Stage-1-Carburetor-Not-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33550QQihZ010QQitemZ200098697224QQrdZ1 Same date code as well. Donny- the 015 is the day. In this case the 15th day of the year. The last number is the year. Coincidentially, my 7040246 is dated 0150 as well
Woops, same auction Brett posted! Im getting my carbs mixed up. These high dollar auctions are getting me flustered!
That's my auction, or least it was. F***ing EBay removed it due to the word "not" being in the title, what kinds of $hit is that? I emailed them and asked how the heck I'm supposed to word it as not being an NOS part, but of course they will probably never respond, like usual. Funny thing is, that title came word for word from the last auction of one of these, and they didn't have a problem with that one. Losers!! I have relisted it as http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...=ADME:L:LCA:US:11&viewitem=&item=200099117871 Hopefully words like "Rare" or "and", or ready for this, "Carburetor" aren't banned today. o No: Oh well, it was my first ever time selling something, and may be my last
Scott, you should have tried "Non-Nos" If it doesn't hit your reserve relist it that way and see what happens. As for the word for word title: Somebody probably told ebay that you listed it that way. Just a thought.
That's exactly what happened. EBay finally replied to my question about why they let another auction use the exact same same title and they told me it was because someone sent in a complaint about what I had put and they didn't on the other auction. This is my first auction, so I learned something. I think it will hit me reserve (at least I'm hoping), which isn't like the last one that started at $5000 and didn't get any bids. I guess when you have a bad reputation to begin with, ya won't get as many bids from the people who really want the parts.
Yet again... This seller presents one of the most detailed and informative auctions I've seen in a long time... Have fun! :Comp:
Have a friend with a carb he wants to sell. 246 also looks like a 240 with the numbers. Is there any other way ro tell if this is the real carb? Thanks Frank
Frank, 7040240 & 7040246 are different carbs. 240 came on the big cars and the GS 455. 246 is specific to Stage 1 only. Hope that helps.
Brett he says possibly someone stamped over the 6 or vice versa and it kind of looks like a 0. I was looking for any other differences thant would be noticable. Frank
There is an additional two letter code stamped into the carb near the part number. The code for the 7040240 carb is MD. The code for the 7040246 is LK.
At least the seller admits it's a re-stamped carb in the auction, and the bids reflect it. What are the original "246" carbs bringing these days?
MY X HAS THE ORIGINAL CARB, JUST HAD IT REBUILT BY JOHN OSBORNE. CANT WAIT FOR SPRING TO TRY IT OUT.:3gears:
