Those might be SBB corporate heads. In them day's,Buick Olds and Pontiac all used Chevy short block and all used different heads to fit them. They are Buick heads but they will only fit Chevy short block,I think.Correction anybody?BrunoD.
Those used to be some of the best heads you could get for a chevy engine. They are probably the same heads they used on the Nascar Regals that a lot of people thought were running the Buick V6 engines. Bob H.
? I'm sure I've read the 80's Regals had issues making it thru to the end of races due to issues with the Buick engine's oiling, etc. Is that incorrect?
Well, it isn't just a set of chevy heads with buick on them. Back in the 80's when GM was still running several manufacturers bodies in Nascar, Dart used the turbo V6 port design converted to a 8 cylinder head that fit the "Corporate" small block engines (sbc). The buick port and combustion chamber design was better than the standard chevy ports, and for awhile the hot ticket was the Dart Buick heads. They used a port layout like a bbc, instead of a sbc, with 4 individual intake ports instead of 2 sets of paired intake ports. They carried over into drag racing as well, and a complete set of heads and the special cam that was required still bring alot of money (last used set I saw on racingjunk cost $4500). Since then alot has changed in head design, and the current sbc heads can outflow the older Dart buick heads. Here is a picture of a front engine dragster with a set of Dart buick heads. It's not mine, I just happened to have the picture. Hope this helps, Randy
Also Buick came out with a new set of heads right after the Dart, they were too good,so they outlawed them. That's when Buick retired from Nascar.Again I'm going from memory,so I might not be 100% correct.BrunoD.
Not only do they require a specific cam due to the symetrical ports, specific intake and exhaust manifolding are required as well. Specific push rods and rocker arms were also required. It is not cheap to build a motor with these heads, but they will still develop a lot of power on a SBC. Jim J.
