Not mine...seems kind of high priced as well. But if the numbers are matching, who knows. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/402985989.html
If it is numbers matching, and in excellent condition as they say it is, $35K is an absolute bargain.
I called just now. I'll speak with the owner tomorrow.... Anyone nearby that could take a look for me? I'm way out here in FLorida. Wish me luck!
Given that a car lot is selling it, I am guessing that it isn't going to turn out to be an absolute bargain. Just my pessimistic nature, But I bet what they consider to be "excellent" and is what I would consider to be a nice driver, and that isn't a bargain at $35k. Maybe a good buy at $25k, (like KC Wade's), which is probably what they are into it for. Hopefully someone will prove me wrong on this one.
I've seen the car and it's a nice driver . Some cuts and short cuts taken not a show car . It's been for sale for years at his park n sell lot . Get many pics and if someone looks for you have them look close . It's been about a year since I seen it so maybe they have done more work . Good Luck
Well, I called and spoke with "Bob" the owner of the car. He has owned for 6 years. He rebuilt the engine twice, first time had some problems putting bearing caps on backwards. Some rust in front lower fenders and rear deck lid. Rear bumper has peeling chrome and needs to be redone. Front bumper was recently replaced with a local salvage yard find. Has rally gauges but they don't work, has dash tach, he thought maybe sending units were the problem. Original AC car but does not have any of the AC equipment for the car. Front grille is cracked and needs to be replaced. Core support needs to be patched or replaced. Has aluminum intake and headers. Said the carb needs to be rebuilt. I asked for email pictures but Im thinking his price is WAY HIGH from his explanation of the cars condition and the money required to address all the issues. And, I would always wonder about the engine since he did it himself and made mistakes the first time around that forced another complete rebuild. I'll let you know if I get pics! I'm looking for a nice DRIVER GS 455 Convertible. Please help me find one!! Thanks, Rob
For comparison sake...the 70 i just brought home 5 weeks ago is rust free, drives very tight, everything is complete and working, bumpers are straight and shiny, A/C is all there, paint looks great, interior looks beautiful but needs seats eventually recovered from the years of slight discoloration, needs all weatherstripping...that is about it. Engine runs great, again is all complete and numbers matching engine/tranny. I 'd say the above car in question is a bit optimistic in how much they want or I got a heck of a deal or maybe a little of both. Below is the latest pics of my 70 car. Feel free to use for comparison. I do believe that the numbers matching on a solid car are worth something (as it is hard to find true numbers match cars) and I know that NADA values these convertible 70 cars silly high, but still...market dictates what they really should be worth and right now I think is a buyers market Either way...I have mine tucked away and keeping for a spell (major restoration coming next year!)
KC, I am looking for the same car you just found and bought. That is what I want as far as condition and AC. I really want buckets and console as well. I want a solid car (no rust or major body work required) but I'm willing to do some reconditioning and interior work, even some mechanical work but I want a solid car as a foundation. Could you PM me with some more details on your car (how you found it and cost)? It would help me focus my search and give me a reality check on my budget. Thanks! Rob
Rob it is the same car I had listed on V* and you passed on due to the bench seat (non buckets). Car looks great Wade, glad it went to a good home. Tony
Hi Tony, I don't think I knew about a car that you had listed. Wish I had known more and taken a careful look. I'm seriously looking now so appreciate any leads on a nice car! Thanks, Rob
Hey Tony! I just got done replacing an alternator and regulator (I think these were the original pieces as I couldn't find receipts ever showing them being replaced)...she is getting new washer tank and overflow tank as well as weatherstripping and new seat upholstery over the winter. The carpet, dash and door panels all looks so good I'll leave them. Oh yeah , I have some trishield mirrors coming, repro caps (I'll restore the originals and shelve them) as well as some Wide Ovals. Little by little and then when Mike finishes the paint next year and other little things like door handles and gas tank...she is ready for some local showing for sure. I crawled under to look at the floors...dang this thing is clean Its funny...I have had a couple people contact me wanting to know if I wanted to sell it...I think we'll hold on to this one.
Wade, It sounds like the car definitely went to the right person, glad you are enjoying it and treating it right!
