It's not but it gets called a Jeep by people who have no idea what it is, bit like my Skylark being called a Chevelle or an Olds, but not quite! Just purchased a Land Rover, yep, an ex Army FFR of 1980 vintage, fitted with an Aussie V8 by GMH 308 cubes or 5 litres, no relation to a 307 Chev. It's been rebuilt and is running a 600 CFM Holley vac sec 4 barrel and custom headers Gears are Nissan 5 speed 4wd box and diffs are JEEP!!! So it's partly Jeep anyway. Very rough ,sat idle over a decade under cover , about a week ago I oiled up the cylinders and would her over, Fuel pump was being so bought and fitted a Facet electrical pump, got fired up and running like crap, secondarys pouring fuel in! Set some float levels, threw in a set of new plugs, and she runs sweet, Next the clutch hydraulics and get the brakes happening ...
Just detailed the rusty rocker covers and air filter. Very rusty as per earlier pic but still sound, Bought 2 litres mollasses to derust them but I'm impatient and couldn't wait 2:weeks plus for that to work so I got stuck in with a wire brush on my drill and got all the loose rust off the painted with a good rust converter, 24 hrs later after wiping with a damp rag and drying I shot em with black etch primer. Then got the Chrysler Blue engine paint ( clear tintable paving paint tinted to match the last 2 Chrysler Mills I painted. Added a good dash of solar yellow tinter and stirred got a nice green Hazed all the parts with that, then another heavier coat in places. Then added some red to the mix to make a brown and blended that around, then got some Totota Citrus and sprayed some highlights, looking good! Then cleaned the touch up gun I was using and got a little of the original blue and added a few small tinges of blue. I think you'll agree the results are outstanding! Also cleaned out and blew air through the 600 cfm Holley, Today bolted it all together and it runs sweet!
Got the brakes working, kitted the rear wheel cylinders and master cylinder, as well as all new brake hoses made up ,bled it all and got a great pedal now. Mixed up some blue and yellow and made a nice Army green, But it looks brown on photos! Wierd hey!....gotta sort out lights and blinkers now and it should be ready to drive, will probably sell it though as I just bought another Victory motorcycle, this ones in the USA, by the time it's shipped to me in Australia it'll double in price with the exchange rate, shipping, insurance and taxes, so I need to raise cash.
It looks amazing. I'm impressed with the progress you've done to it. I'm curious how it'll perform off-road though. I want to see actual one with mud terrain tires installed wading across the river and traversing through muddy terrain.
Sold the mud tyres, they're rag tyres and don't comply for the road, also with no power steering only the terminator or the hulk could steer it. Fitted radials of a much saner dimension and have traversed very steep climbs and rocky dry creekbeds quite well. I've cut a notch out of the floor to enable the transfer case selector to actually go into Low range 4WD, So now with the torque of the 5 Litre naturally aspirated and torque cammed V8 it'll idle anywhere in Low 2nd gear. It's legally on the road now and lots of fun to drive, it's not easy to drive but very rewarding when it all comes together. The way the world is going it's the perfect Army-Geddon machine, just needs a few machine guns to deal with covid-zombies and forces of darkness ☠️
First movie work for a film director mate, a promo for Riccardo Bosi, a straight shooter that can hopefully turn Australia around. Here's the video we just shot using my Army truck. If your quick you car just glimpse me driving as we drive off. I'm in the right hand side too remember! https://www.facebook.com/100004340071863/posts/1789709204517065/?d=n
