Fenders are in polyester primer, and I blocked the hood as well. It already has a really nice layer of (fairly new) paint, so I am just running over it with a block to smooth it out. It's amazing how wavy it is, since it looked great before I touched it.
So my goal of end of Feb to have paint came and went. I’m back at it after a month of trying to finish my shop. Fenders are getting worked now. I got a fun surprise from the UPS man today...
Fenders, hood, and underside of trunk lid are in 2K primer. Getting close to color! I am always torn on how to go about painting the trunk lid. I know the factory did it with it installed on the body, but that method is a bit sloppy for me, with access to painted areas. I think I'm going to paint and clear the underside now, and then flip it and paint the top with everything else (not installed on the car).
I hosed some paint and clear on the trunk lid after work today...having a hard time photographing it to get the right color as in person. This is going to be a stunner. What a great color!
Some NOS jewelry for the convertible... I’m working on final sanding of the front end sheet meta now. Found a weird low spot right in the middle of the RH fender...so working on fixing that. I was hoping for paint this weekend, but this snafu is going to put me behind a week or so.
Nice work Adam. Been following your threads on this one and the 72 GSX. Good job. Quick question, after looking at your hood pic, what's the putty stuff between the hood and the under hood support brace? My hood seems a little flimsy and it looks like some of that putty is missing. Thanks - Lon
I think you’re referring to something like this... https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company...mpening-Material/?N=5002385+3293194066&rt=rud
The product Adam is pointing to looks like a good one. We simply pumped seam sealer in places trying to mimic the factory locations on my '69. The sandwiched factory dabs of seam sealer dry and shrink over time and fall out from between the frame and skin of the hood. The skin, out and away from the welded edges, is largely unsecured without it.
Adam what color is the interior going to be and do you know what all options it is going to have ? I agree the color is going to look amazing. Cant wait to see the car painted.
Pearl white interior...not 100% sure on option list without looking at docs. Power windows, seat, AC is all I can think of right now
Found the report: Tilt, power windows, Trunk light, map light, clock, chrome wheels, rallye steering wheel, Rallye ride package, AC, custom front and rear seat belts, speed alert, tinted glass, remote mirror, floor mats, power bench notchback seat, Stage1, power steering, brakes, AM/FM radio w rear speaker. Tealmist Gray with white top and pearl white notchaback interior (front bench with arm rest). I did a little work on the RH fender this weekend, but mostly worked on getting more organized in the new shop. I had to work yesterday, too. Sometimes being essential sucks. I also realized that I need to get the hood grill surrounds and quarter extensions prepped for paint. Those are easy, though.
Heavily optioned - You have your work cut out for you but you work quickly. Hope to see it in the fall. No gauges? Just the clock? Keeping it that way? Funny how people ordered these cars. That color will be absolutely stunning.
Keeping it like that (as the Corvette guys say "the way it was built, not the way we wish it was built")? I'd have tough time not adding gauges/Rallye clock or gauges/tach option. My stripper Stage 1 4-sp. orig. came w/ gauges/Rallye clock (On a 4-sp.?). Someone installed a tach before I got it & I'm hard pressed to not get the correct (tall font) tach and make that change permanent. Can only imagine it was either ordered/built incorrectly (probably happened way more than we realize) or the plan was a day-2 Sun-Tach on the steering column.
