Today was a great day for my 69 Skylark, I installed the rear end Brian built for me and a 200r4 transmission, just gotta wait for drive shaft to arrive.
Hi, Thinking of that swap on my Olds, what gear ratio did you decide on? Did you have a TH400 as I thought a TH350/ST300 were the same length? Regards,
I'm using an edelbrock carb with an adapter bracket for the TV cable, I replaced a th350 the gear ratio is 3:73 w/posi unit, I was thinking maybe I should have went with 3:55. I order a driveshaft from Denny's Driveshafts however it will be 4 weeks before I get it bummer.
Hi again, You should be able to use your existing driveshaft as I believe only the mount is farther back. Unless the rear end has a different yoke/u-joint. 3.73's were what came standard in the Monte SS, GN's and the 442's of that era. I was debating higher as even with a 4.56 it comes out to a 3.06 in my 65 Olds which currently has a 3.08. Regards,
GNs came with the 8.5 w/3.42. 442s also had an 8.5, don't recall which gear. And the Monte's had the 7.5 rear end don't remember which gear in it.
My old drive shaft does fit , however, I wanted one that I would feel better about getting into the gas pedal. I'm getting one from Dennys driveshafts which is rated T 500HP.
442/ hurstolds was a 3.73 in an 8.5 MonteCarlo SS was a 7.5 with a 3.42 in the earlier years and a 3.73 in the later years.
It too quite a bit of drive and adjusting before I got the tv cable correct shifts great however, had sometimes when down shifting and 1-2, earlier today the tires barked fron 1-2. I have a switch which turn red when on to turn the lock-up on/off. I was finally able to get out on the interstate and it was great. I don't have a tach however, it seems the same when going 35mph & 80mph. Those 3:73 gears are great! definitely worth the upgrade. After a few more miles I'll fill up and see what kind of gas mileage I'm getting.
