Spent Saturday at Rock Falls Raceway for their fall Musclecar Event. Finally got a chance to run the 350 when it wasn't 80+ degrees and run well it did! Several people there told me they called the track Slippery Rock because of traction issues and my little Cooper Cobra P215-70-14 radials were experiencing the same, I ended up with 20lbs of air in the passenger side bag before it came close to hooking!

I still did manage a best run of 13.56@99.4mph on the one run where I only had to peddle it once! I also ran several 13.7s having to peddle it a few times before the tires would hook. 60' times were all over, mostly in the 2.1 range.

Had a great day and made it to the quarterfinals of the consolation race before getting knocked out. Had several people ask me about my car, most asssumed it was a 455 and I had to open the hood several times to show them it was a little ol 350 engine that just spanked their big-block!

Time to update the signature! :beer

Way to go Ken! So was it only the cool air, or have you been tweaking? Wasn't your old best ET in the 13.80's? :3gears:

    Dave,

It was just the cool air, I haven't changed the car in a year or so. You're right previous best were all 13.8s. If I had a set of sticky tires I would have had better numbers than posted. It might finally be time to bite the bullet and spend the $350 for a set of 26" tall stickys.

Had a great time driving around several big block Mopars. One guy came up and talked to me in the lanes after I passed him about half track. When I showed him the 350 under the hood there were several swear words muttered about being beaten by a small block!

I had two goals for this combo, 13s and 100mph. I didn't know if I could get the 100mph and was really surprised to see the 99.4mph on the slip! Now I think it may be possible if I could come up on the converter and leave the line hard. I was shifting it at 6000 and it was pulling good in the cool air!

I'm running a '69 block, .030 over TRW forged slugs, TA 290-94H cam with TA springs, mild porting on heads, TA headers into a 2 1/2" dual exhaust with X-pipe and Cherry Bomb short case Turbo mufflers, stock intake manifold w/a quadrajet, stock points distributor with a curve kit, shift kit in a TH350, and stock 3.23 10 bolt posi on P215-70-14 series radial tires and air bags in the coils.

This engine has been in the car since '99 so I've had some time to tweak the combo.

hah. half the buick guys have a hard time id'ing a small block from a big block, how would these guys know? let me guess, you've got the label on your aircleaner. how many of the guys at the strip are going to know to count valve cover bolts? :Dou:

hot tip, you can swap cleaners between the 350 and 455 cuz they both go on top of the same carb. much hilarity can ensue.

Excellamundo Ken!! There's a lot more in the little guy. A little more on the heads and some tweaking to the manifold will net you a whole bunch more with that combo. :Brow:

    Thanks Bill!

I do like the 350s! With the 290-94H cam that's in it (Thanks to Jim Weise) I regularly spin it up to 6000rpms on the shifts. I think you're right about more tweaking, it's time to come apart anyway. Way too much blowby and the front and rear seals are finally toast. I don't know if the rings never seated correctly, or if there was some other issue but this build has always pushed oil from the passenger valve cover breather tube into the air cleaner on long drives. It also pushes the dipstick out the tube a little on 1/4 passes and fills the driver side valve cover breather with oil.

I just kept pounding on it but now after 20K miles and a ton of 1/4 mile passes I think it may be time to freshen it back up!

Nice work Ken! I managed a 14.14 outta mine last weekend. My bottom end and heads remain bone stock. I have a cylinder fouling bad, which is a shame because I finally achieved a good tune after many trials. I probably have a broken ring with the amount of oil I'm using. Once again, good job on the 13.69. I bet nobody see's that coming.

Nice work Ken. My street sleeper is a 72 lark with 350 best et is 11.92 thru the mufflers and sticky street tires. With a little minor work and lot of trial and error and tuning the little brothers will go and surprise a lot of people. Keep up the good work
