What I'm looking for is a time period for the stamping change over on Skylarks or GS cars with original parts Please post the number of your panel and the assembly date of your car. The stamping numbers are either 1231399 or 1231400. Thanks.
As for the part in appears there is not a difference. The '70 is one year only. But the part in the build manual shows a number of 1231399 which was draw in 12/68 for the 70 model car. This is either the part number or stamped ID number. The part number is 1231399. But some have a stamped 1231400 and others have a 1231399. I've discussed it with others and decided the only way to know when the change occurred was to ask. Just like the w/o screws it is one of those things that is very interesting.....and drives me nuts when people ask me what's correct.
Usually around the upper hole left or right but not always. But for some it's behind the latch and I don't expect anyone to remove it just to see the stamp.
Frank, the picture you have with the date 03 next to it is 1231399. Maybe the 1231400 is the secondary stamped part of the core support. David, do you think that is what is going on? Nelson
The core support assembly stamp is 1231398 The center grille panel is a separate part from the core support. I appreciate the posts. I re-read the page in the '70 book and was thinking I've seen to many 1231400 panels not to question what GM/Buick said in the manual.
