The 71 made the trek from Washington to Michigan, and arrived Monday afternoon. The plan is to pull the stuck 350, and install a fresh 455 I have sitting here, new seat cover, carpet, and top. Do some clean up, and drive the heck out of it. Thanks Chris
Bumper guards on a ‘71? Don’t believe I had ever seen that. My brother has a ‘71 convert. Factory red, Perl white interior, and white top. Do you know the story on the guards? Nice score, looks great!
In '71-2 front & rear bumper guards were both factory (f&r was one option code) & dealer installed (f or r sold separately) options. '71-2 front are very similar exc. '72 has a notch for the rubber strip. '71 rear are individual pieces & '72 rear is one piece U-shaped. I'm looking for a set of NOS '71 rear (or just the cushions).

Went through the back seat this evening, unbolted the trunk latch so I could get the trunk open. After cleaning the junk out, and doing some scraping with a putty knife, I was rewarded with a solid trunk floor, minus two pinholes. It just keeps getting better!
Got the trunk floor and floor pans painted with POR15. I just noticed tonight it also has Rally gauges to go with the tilt column and rally steering wheel. When this was new, it was basically a GS350 convertible without the Hood and air breather.
Looking forward to seeing the finished results. Sounds like it will be a good driver, top down cruiser.
Cleaning up good. I remember seeing that listed but it was too far away for me. Looks like she has lots of potential. I had a 71 GS 350 conv that was originally that color combo. Probably my favorite 71 color combo.

Only ran it for a few seconds the other night with that video. What you don't see is the heater core puking half the coolant onto the front floor, and the rest running down the firewall into the ground. The "popping you hear, I believe was a valve sticking. I looped the heater hose and fired it up again last night, with the thought of getting it warm, and seeing if it would move under its own power.(it does) or did anyway. While it was running it smoothed out and the popping quit. I idled it down to about 650rpm and it was sitting there purring, then died? WTF?? I hit the throttle, it fired right back up, then died. Hit the throttle again, but didn't hear any squirting from the carb. Out of gas? Checked my makeshift gas tank, nope still plenty of gas. Hose not submerged? Nope, not it either. I think the 52 year old fuel pump gave up the ghost. Anyway, my son works at local O'Reilly's, so we ordered a new pump, new fuel tank, and new sending unit, everything should be here Friday. Behind schedule, had a new gas tank fiasco, and walking into your local Auto parts store, and expecting ANTHING to be in stock, is a thing of the past. Even stuff that wasn't in stock that they could usually have before noon the following day rarely happens anymore. Typically 2-3 days now for parts, then hope they are right, or usable when they finally do get there. As was the case with the brand new gas tank. It got there in 3 days, but unfortunately, the baffle inside was loose, all the spot welds failed. So it was another 5 days for a replacement tank. Still not running 100%, but we did take it down the road the other day. Got the top to go down manually with lots of love and patience. A ton of PB Blaster helped too
