With MSD boxes there are two 10 gauge wires, red and black. They are meant to be wired directly to the battery. The thinner red wire goes to a switched ignition source, it turns the box on when you turn the key to run. The thinner orange and black goes to the coil + and - respectively. The white wire is used with points, the green/violet wires, with a magnetic pickup. That's it. There is no way for the box to draw from the battery unless it is on. That only happens if you turn the ignition key to run, IF, it is wired correctly.
I think that the “IF” is the real question. Hopefully they will fix it. Thank you again for taking the time !
Still think something else is going on also. Strange to have enough battery to start and be totaly dead shortly after .
Agree - previous behavior indicates a loose connection somewhere. Hope fully the mechanic will find it. Make sure he looks for it after he fixes the dead battery issue.
I want to thank everyone for all your help. Turns out it was a combination of poor installation. Ground wire to the block was not connected with the proper size of bolt, wire from alternator to battery was 14 gauge ( replaced it with 4 gauge) and battery was replaced. All good, for now. Do you have a heater control valve? It could be stuck, or inoperative, and routing hot coolant to the heater core full time. It is controlled by vacuum. Does your 69 have A/C?
I’m not sure on the heater control valve. My ‘69 skylark previously had air conditioning but there is no air conditioning on the newly installed ‘70 455 if that helps
