Hi all. I was considering grabbing some headers for a future swap of a big block into my wife's 67' Skylark. I know back in the day the Poston headers were the best fit for the early A body 64'-67' Chassis. That is what I installed in my 66' Skylark when I swapped the 455 in 25 years ago. With Poston ones not an option, what seems to be the best fit these days? Doug's, Hooker and TA headers all say for 68' to 72' A body. None say for the earlier car. I know people make them fit. Even the Poston ones need a couple dents for clearance on the steering shaft. I expect that. How much other "clearancing" is needed for the early cars? Greg
My 2 cents - MT Long tube - sometimes you can find a pair of the GSCA repro's. Or switch to Stage 2 TA heads and us the stage 2 TA's.
Both of those are way out of my price range. The last set of MT long tube reproductions I have seen were $1500 USD. That is over $2000 for me in Canada plus shipping. Definitely not going to happen. Same goes for Stage 2 heads. I would love a set of those. For sure the headers fit way better in the early car. For Stage 2 heads shipped to Canada I am looking at somewhere near $5000. Prices like that are the difference between enjoying the car hobby and driving the car or having a parked project in the shop. Greg
Given your option limitations, it won't really matter which you choose. The Postons were no great fit either. With the TA's you may want to notch the frame for a little extra clearance on the passenger side, and you'll need a few dings on the driver side. Nothing fits well except the TA Stage 2's, which fit like a fine glove. Never had a set of the Super Scavengers.

Wow - those prices are crazy - forgot you were north! Ported factory manifolds might be best if you can grind. Only issue is the outlet - someone here welds on a bigger connection to the downpipe.
I do have a set of manifolds that I have cleaned up already. Worst case I will use them but really prefer headers to get the most out of the mods we have done to the engine. I potentially have a deal worked out on on some used MT Style Long tube GSCA reproduction headers. They need some work but that is no problem for me. They are cheap but the owner is trying to find some shipping options that are not more than what a good set of new headers are. Greg
We put off looking for big block headers for now. We ended up with a great deal on a Buick 350 so have swapped that in for now. We will delay swapping in the 430 for a while. We ended up buying some Hooker Super comp headers for the 350 and they fit like ****. Greg
We just got a set of hookers for my son's 67 lark with buick 350 swap. Can you tell me what issues you had? I was told those fit the best.
I was told the same thing. I am not sure if they changed something but the #3 tube hits the crossmember bad. I had to crush the tube to about half the diameter for 3 or 4 inches. I also had to trim the bracket that the back lower control arm attaches to. On the passenger side I had to trim the corners of the upper control arm and crush the tube that runs along the frame. I was not impressed with the fit. This was all on a 67' Skylark. I can try to take some pictures of the tight spots. Greg
