My first time doing a frame up and I've been focusing on the frame lately ,I've noticed some issues on the rear of the frame and I'm trying to fiqure out if I should just get a new frame or repair mine? I'm posting some pictures of the rear where I noticed what I consider damage, there's also some areas in the front that are suspect but for now I'll just focus on the rear, love to hear your opinions?
Make your decision now. Don’t mess with the rear if the front is toast too. Is that rust or someone’s handy work with a torch ? U can find Rear frame sections for sale on line. If that’s the worst part of frame save it
I have a clean South Carolina frame for sale. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/1969-buick-gs-frame.375281/#post-3279925
350 but when I look at some of the work done on the front end I think they were trying to go bigger?..
It is hard to imagine a frame having that amount of rust in only one small area. I would anticipate the entire frame having rot issues. If that is the case, it is an easy call to replace it.
Yeah I agree ,ther's some other suspect areas that I'll try and get pics up tomorrow or this weekend ,I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I need to find a new frame..
A friend of mine's Uncle had a 66 Chevelle SS 396 convertible and he used to tow his boat with it. He would unstrap the boat, then back the boat/trailer down the ramp until it would float off of the trailer. The problem was he backed it up so far that the entire back end of the car was dipped into the water. Years later the back of the car simply rusted away including the frame, but the front part was perfect. Made for a great parts car back then, although I am sure if found today it would be restored. My old GSX was used for launching the orig. owner's boat in that way & had dents in the roof from the water ski rack. Also had lots of "class winner" stickers in the window from the drag strip. Was a multipurpose vehicle.
