Can someone tell me please, is the AC compressor used in the 455 engine the same as the one used in the 350 engine? I need to buy a remanufactured unit. Thanks you, John
Just wanted to mention that Alma Products in Alma MI produces brand new OE A6 compressors. They do not sell directly to consumers although, if you contact them, will indicate dealers who retail the product. GM was selling these compressors until some ten years ago. Alma still makes them. Hope this may help. Jim Vesely ROA # 7437 BCA # 39477
You are welcome John. I ordered a new A6 built by Alma from Omega Environmental Technologies in Texas. Best regards, Jim
I have found this one at Rock Auto which fits my budget for shipping down to New Zealand. They say it is for the ' 72 Buick GS 455 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5681796&cc=1379785&pt=17507&jsn=420&jsn=420 Thank you, John
Hey John, hope you and your family are well! It's been a while. If memory serves, the A6 compressor is the same on the Stage 1s, but Buick put a larger diameter pulley on its high-performance engines to slow the compressor RPMs down due to expected higher engine RPMs. Look at pics of correctly restored or original survivors and you'll see the size difference. I have also owned original GS 455s with the larger diameter A/C pulley, but never have seen the larger one on a 350 GS. The larger pulley should be able to be changed with the A/C clutch. The color and style of compressor info decals changed during certain years.
Hi Ken, Yes it has been a while, we are all good here thanks, how are you and your family? I have managed to find the correct compressor and with the correct pulley, it is on its way here.
Good to hear that. It has been a wild last couple of years. If you picked the compressor up from RockAuto ... and that worked well, you might consider adding your vehicles to your account profile and select the settings which will automatically email you when they have a wholesaler which closes-out its inventory 9like older stock for older vehicles) and parts in that close-out match your vehicles in your profile. Sometimes there are simple parts like windshield wipers, belts or hoses, but other times there are ridiculously low-priced other parts like brake pads & shoes ... or starters, etc. ... for cheap.
