Have any of you guys ever used one of these? Both sides of my front bumper are bent upwards and was thinking about buying one.
We used to have something similar in the body shop at the Buick dealership in the 80's, but it was a lot more crude and you could make thigs worse if you didnt use it right, bend a flange. I have to admit I've been looking for one just to have it available.
You might get away with tweaking your bumper if it's original chrome. If it's a re chrome you'll likely crack the plating. Depends on alot of variables.
I've used a "homemade" version on just about every car I've ever restored or worked on with steel bumpers. It's the only way to get the bumpers to fit "just right". Just like the guy in the video, it "kills me" to see crooked bumpers when it's so easily remedied. But like it says in the video..........."take your time"! This basic principle also works on doors, deck lids, etc., as long as you practice "common sense" and use a gentle approach.
All original well worn chrome. I have just decided to hit various obstacles in the last several years
I've used all kinds of backyard methods. Axle straps and a come along around a tree, wooden blocks, my jack handle, bottle jacks...
I remember Jarvis Allen telling me how he would put bumpers on blocks of wood and stand on them to bend them back into shape.
I bought one of those sticks. It's large, cumbersome and obnoxious. Oh, and it works really well when you don't have any frame pulling anchors.
