Got my car from the “restoshop” and their so called electrician said he did some wiring work in the dash and mounting the front speaker. Had a bad feeling how bad it could be and I removed the dash to see the work. Its way worse than I thought… Now I have another project I need to finish correcting, going through the whole dash harness. I dont think this looks normal. I will add more pics to see what needs to be repaired.
Please tell me that ground wire on the column support isn’t supposed to be there. This doesn’t look right.
Send them a picture and ask for 2-hour credit for labor. The problem is that if you say nothing, why would he do a better job next time. What is that "splice"?? I could see if it was done up and someone forgot to solder it after -- but we all know that's just a hack...
That is what I'm doing at the moment, showing them their mess. The problem is I'm the one who has to repair all this myself. That dumb splice by that idiot was definitely a careless hack job that got me furious.
These are more issues I found. Trying to figure out what they are and how they are supposed to be connected.
Obviously there are issues here but keep in mind the underdash wiring on these cars was never very neat to begin with. I'd start by seeing what actually works and what doesn't....
This one? Yes, it's supposed to be there. The rest of the mess? Shame. Better off doing it yourself. That's how I learned to do the sheetmetal work. Figured I could mess stuff up all by myself & use the $ to buy (more) cool tools, lol. Didn't need to pay someone to mess stuff up for me.
The Chassis Service Manual not only has a wiring diagram but also a lot of drawings that are basically from the assembly manual about how the wiring is supposed to be routed/connected etc. I just pulled an almost 100% unmolested wiring harness (nicest one I think I've ever seen) out of my '71 GS & also took a ton of pics in the process so if you need any specific pics of routing &/or the harness itself, lmk.
I know that wiper switch ground is supposed to be there, but I dont think that splice attached to it from the column support is. At least not wrapped around the wiper ground wire like that. I need to start fixing that.
That would help a lot. I’m looking through the wiring diagram from the chassis manual to identify the missing wires.
