So a few years ago I bought a TA rear differential cover while at a car show, either BG or BPG in Ohio from I believe it was Cars inc. Well I brought it home and about a year later was going to install it on my Skylark thinking it would fit my rear, but found out it is for the 8.2 Buick rear. I have a 71-72 cutlass 8.5 10 bolt. What part number would I need for this rear? Anyone want to trade covers? Was going to put on my GS but decided not to. 71-72 cutlass 8.5 rear 10 bolt
Thanks, also do know how good the aftermarket support is for these rears? Or we can talk about that if you have time this weekend
TA 1807. Same cover for the GN's. Aftermarket support for the 71-2 Skylark/GS, Cutlass 8.5 rears is excellent. You can get anything you want including upgraded 30 spline axles and Posi carriers. http://taperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TA_1807 I always thought the TA catalog is misleading. The 1808 is for the BOP and 68-70 Buick only 8.2, yet they list the 8.5-8.6 in the description. http://taperformance.com/products.asp?cat=48
Just noticed type o. That's the Olds 12 bolt rear end with 10 bolt internals. You have an 8.5 10 bolt right?
Brian, What's the narrowest flange to flange rear end width you would put in a stock bodied, non tubed, 455 GS? Do you have brand type preference for mosty street driven use?
482 Are you looking to use a rear wheel with a shallow backspace,or the deep dish look? I have been doing a few of those lately, and I am finishing another one right now. I did a few last fall that I took 1.25” off each side, and when I did those,I knew I could take a little more. The one I’m doing now has 1 5/8” off each side, and that’s about as much as I can take off before running into the control arm mount, and still have room to get the welder around the tube. The shock mount also gets relocated behind the lower control arm.
