LEDs are not really legal here in Australia yet (as replacement aftermarket). There are some that are approved. But it's touch and go. And they are crazy expensive. Mind you I'm all in at around $700 for a H4 conversion (4 lights up front). Current is old T3's and can't get proper T3's out here. So now low beam is not that bright and I live country with no street lights and high beam, after about 3 mins gets hot and kills the lights all together, no lights at all. So time for an upgrade. I'm no sparky and while I could have figured it out as it doesn't seem too complicated, I just bought a kit. Had to get 2 of these so 4 lights in total. They are the lamp plus a 100/55W globe for each. They retail for $200 each https://www.narva.com.au/products/72010 Then I bought this. Covert US$ to Aussie peso plus add freight comes in at close to AUD$300. But super slick. Chris, Don't forget to install 2 relays. One for low beams & 1 for high beams. The lighting draws more power than the headlight switch can handle & the lights will go out when the switch gets overheated from the additional power required for those lights. After the switch cools they will come back on again then go off shortly after & keep repeating. Another suggestion. I don't use the relays in ANY kits as most of them are garbage. I ALWAYS use the NAPA AR200 relays. They are a constant 60 amp relay used for power windows & power seats. I've NEVER had to replace one. Tom T.
Thanks Tom, yep the 2 relay kit I got specifically for that low/high and I plan to replace the relays (i had been told by a few others often the relays aren't great).
Finally got my act together and installed the kit. To say it was easy was a massive understatement. 4 headlights. I literally got the entire thing done, inc shed tidied up in just over an hour. You only need to screw the 2 relays in. Everything else is literally plug and play. I was astounded at how well thought out this kit is and how easy it was to install. End result. Low beam High beam
If running high beams (before the conversion) was tripping the circuit breaker, you either had way too much draw or too much resistance. Either the bulbs were wrong (not just modern sealed beams) or you have wiring issues. (Replacing T3s with sealed beam halogens shouldn’t have caused any problem.) You may want to check your connections and such on the rest of the car. Patrick
Patrick, yep, did all that, had multi meter all over it, it was the draw on the beams and only tripped when they got really hot
