Hi guys hope you're all are well! As I've mentioned before, something is not right underneath the hood of my 62 lesabre. I can see that the belt from the PS is rubbing against the waterpumphousing if I'm correct and although I've been asking around, nobody seems to get what's wrong or missing. Therefore I turn to you guys who probably knows how it supposed to looknunder the hood on this model. Please, look at the enginebay and inform me of what is wrong or missing. My biggest issue is that I don't have any knowledge about cars, but I do love this old classics and the magic sound when starting them up! Thanks!
I am by no means a Buick motor guru, however, it looks to me like your water pump pulley is missing a groove for the PS belt... Hopefully someone that knows better will chime in and tell you how to fix it. Maybe try posting this again in one of the engine threads, like Small Block Tech, or something. Welcome to the site!
Hey @Smartin can you move this to the nailhead forum so @Alexswede can get an expert opinion.... welcome
Below is a picture of a 62 Buick Invicta with aftermarket AC. The first two groves closest to the engine are used for the AC and the third furthest from the engine is used for the PS. Maybe yours should be the same? Cheryl
Looking at the 62 CSM, the PS belt is on the first groove closest to the engine, but the cutaway shows no more. There is a three groove water pump available for the nailhead from 60-66. Here is picture of the three groove crank and water pump pulley. I now think you need the three groove water pump pulley to keep the PS belt off the water pump amd on the first groove of the pulley closest to the engine - Best Guess! Cheryl
That's a "High Mount" P/S pump used on the full size cars W/O A/C. IF it were a Riv. it has side mount P/S set-up with or without A/C. So YES it has the proper set-up. Maybe the belt is kinda loose & "Flopping" around causing contact. I know they are kinda close but usually don't cause a problem. Tom T.
Wow, this forum is amazing. Thank you guys so much for the input and help. I have been thinking the same thing regarding a third groove but was unsure if it fits. I will definitely try to get hold of the faulty piece. @telriv good to now that it seems to be in order. It's not always easy to see what previous owners have changed @Babeola thanks, you are right!! You guys are the best, again - thanks!
One thing I don't see in the photos is the generator or Alternator . Not sure what an early Buick used . What is charging the Battery ??? Perhaps the PS belt should be much longer and also turn the Missing Alternator or Generator ???
The generator/alternator is fitted to the left but a bit down, probably why you don't see it Forum2 by Alexswede posted Jun 25, 2020 at 8:31 PM
Alexswede, You couldn't use a low mount bracket set-up because it will interfere with the battery. I have a high mount set of brackets IF you would like to see if your brackets are bent/twisted or whatever. Of course shipping to Sweden may be cost prohibitive. Tom T.
@telriv Ah yes you are right about that.. From what i can see, the bracket seems to be fine and not bent but you never know, right! As you said, the shippingcosts to Sweden is outrageous unfortunately. I think I'll start with buying a three groove wheel first and see if it fits at all. Perhaps I need to adjust the alignment for the PSbelt afterwards. Big thanks though for your kindness.
