So just welded an AMP oil pan baffle , so figured I’d bolt on the factory pickup tube and dry fit the pan to see where everything landed. Obviously no gasket yet , but reached in and could feel p/u screen maybe 1/4” from hitting pan ! Seems very tight to me ? I figured I’d have maybe an inch ? What is an acceptable clearance ? Any help appreciated !

WOW ! Just seems tight to me but .... factory pan not dented and factory p/u Checked 2 other pans I had and all measured same. Been a while putting one together so just want to be safe ! Figured that close to bottom would be susceptible to picking up sludge in theory but we all change our oil so often shouldn’t be sludge rite ? Lol gasket will give me a hair more too ! Glad I asked. Thx Larry

An inch of clearance is way too much. What Larry put is the standard I have used. I put the gasket on the block and use clay to check clearance. The tube is always a bit off.
