This is all good info, thanks for the pics guys! Now I'll have to take a look at my starter and see if she's got the tapped hole for that bracket to mount to?
Here's one that someone slotted to make it easier to mount cause it's a bitch to get in there with tools. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/starter-bracket-hack.347379/
Exactly like that! I recently received one from Jim in NH. Exactly as described, I’ll go test if it fits.
Indeed correct hole location on starter pictured Correct starter for 68 & up 1108392... 67 & previous would be 1108354...both employ a notch for lead indicating correct " top notch " case Does anyone know if th special course/ fine thread mounting stud with thin 1/2 bolt head was employed to mount brace to starter ?
Strange....thats what I took it off...what is buicks method of fastening , short bolt & lockwasher ??& if you have any th olds type I know a man needs couple... Seems as though stud would simplify installation ....course things were much diffrent rollin down the line.....
I just changed out my starter, imo it would be impossible to add that bracket with the engine in the car.
Indeed... 1964 V6 and all V8 Buicks (except nailheads) (those starters are on the wrong side LOL) up to the last one in 1978 (?) use this. The long case bolt is from a reman place, of the shelf. ws
I seem to recall someone had fabricated a tool for removing and installing this bracket. I swear I saw it here somewhere.
That threaded stud was probably from a 61-63 buick which mounted on the other side of the engine like an 1107221
No..1108 triple 3..correct about its origins Hav been able to get correct oem fastners for th show cars & wanted to know what fatory fastners were used Saw a stud in that locaton other day... Fastners in th buckets dont help anyone if I dont know their application ....rare occasion to get unmolested factory unit , but take advantage of all info they provide....as well as th experts Any help greatly appreciated
I have a 72 455 from a Riviera. When i tore it down i do not recall seeing this bracket... on a mild 325 to 350 HP low compression 9:1 build is this bracket neccessary?
I made this slim wrench for removing the bolt that goes into starter or block, 1/3'd turn at a time.....
Bracket not necicarily necicary as most have succumbed over the years to fact that its such PIA most spend enough time tryin to get it installed without progress they send dammed thing airmail express to next county As long as nosecone &bolts are quality items...will be fine 98% of delco remy starters on GM vehicles are sequred nicely with two starter bolts
