Yes there are hyd.rollers for a 455, I've done 3 482's recently that used them and were totally streetable and made over 630 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque.
We'll agree to disagree on that one Mark! I tuned my Holley a ton, but never within a few seconds from the drivers seat.
Shawn, it is a shame that you didn’t get the car down the track with the carburetor. It would have been interesting to see if the FI made the car faster. I’m sure the drive ability is better though. Mark, you don’t really need computer skills, the FI learns/tunes itself.
I have seen some wet manifolds that came from from 430 that were used in jet drive boats......also seen cast iron timing covers on them too
The stock LS's CAN be made to run just as my son & his friend have done with a COMPLETELY STOCK, ORIGINAL from GM they've been running now for over 3 seasons. Originally stock was less than 400HP & is now approaching 1300HP. Enough to propel a 3500lb. car with driver to a best ET of 7.78@177MPH. Tom T.
The LS may have the advantage in peak horsepower, but the 455 Buick will crush the LS in torque. By the time the LS gets wound up and running, the race would be over, the 455's torque would hurl your car like a steam catapult on an aircraft carrier. Horsepower is just a number derived from torque.
A LS motor definitely has its strong advantages. I think you should run what makes you happy and just have fun with it. I have seen guys get crazy power out of the LS motors and for dirt cheep compared to what the Buick engine costs to build. Put the 455 on a stand and you can always put it back in if later you find your board with the LS engine. I don't see a lot of people going back to using whatever brand engine that had before in any car (Pontiac, Olds, Buick) The LS engine is going to make a dent in what is being used in cars BUT that also means everyone gets kind of sick of seeing them in everything. Its never going to be a clear winner on all area's but if your having fun with your car and making memories your already winning so put whatever you want in your car and go have a blast with your friends.
There was a guy on the board that put a Cummins in a Riv and was running 40+ lbs of boost. I bet it had some torque. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/my-72-cummins-powered-riviera.218824/
My advice is simply pick your poison. A strong LS will cost about what a high dollar Buick will cost. Until you try boost. Then the LS will shine. I have a bud who runs twins on a 425 LSX. Makes 2165 at the rear and is by no means the fastest LS powered anything out there. Runs 7.40s in the quarter. A well built, well cammed Buick is alot of fun.
That's at the crank. My 470 made 602/589 with a small roller cam and was built almost 8 years ago. Aluminum heads, 10.5:1 compression, no power adders.
