Don't see where to post this on the board so I put it here. My rearview mirror is orig. It will not stay in place. it keeps flopping DOWN. It has the orig, I assume, tightening screw that seats down in a hole. I can tighten it like heck and it will hold for a few bumps in the road then it flops back down. The treads on the screw are not stripped, cross threaded etc. IS this common for these at this age? What is the fix? Can't put a lock washer on it since the screw sits down in a cup.
Get it where you want it then tack weld it. Personally, I would replace it since I've fought with mirrors and visors so much, I just replace them when they won't cooperate (old worn out stuff).
Hi, Big screw driver helps, but first smooth out the sides of the tab on the mirror as they get a wear pattern or track and they will keep walking in the wear path unless you flatten the surface. Regards,
Use some lock tight on the threads and then tighten it up. Leave it alone for a few days before you drive it. Duane
I had the same problem with mine, eventually, I stripped it out. Got another arm from Bruno I believe this one is the same, https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproduct...MIyJna2tO25wIVAZ-fCh0XMwWEEAQYBSABEgLxE_D_BwE
If it's not a show car just drill out the threads to the next bigger machine screw sizeand use a nyloc type nut or jam nut on its end, done deal in 3 minutes!
