I disassembled my oil pump last night. The spring for the oil pressure relief came right out but the valve that it contacts seems to be seized in the pump and is not coming out. Has this happened to anyone and if so how did you get the valve out?
I expected it to slide out on it's own. Doesn't seem to be a good way to reach down into the bore and grab it to pull it out. It's a blind hole so it can't be poked out from the opposite side.
I had that happen and OH the oil pressure! Wrapped the gauge all the way around. I used my pinkie to push into it and get it to come out. Actually a good tight fit....
They can appear to be stuck, but they really aren't. The oil will hold them in the bore. Try spraying some carburetor or brake cleaner in the bore.
Brake cleaner and then hit it on some wood on the thread face. The jar from the sudden stop should get it to move. Do this a lot on valves in transmission valve bodies. Had one on a new motor do that and after it wrapped the gauge around I saw a dark mist shooting up in front of the motor. Shut it off and found the oil filter split open!! I have also seen them stick open so next to no pressure. Had a 455 in an old Ford highboy truck for years and carried a piece of threaded rod that would reach through the grill and into the relief hole to un-stick it. Mike
