Monday morning I will be getting a 2 level lumbar spinal fusion. The procedure is called a DLIF to fuse the L1-L2-L3 lumbar vertebrae. Hopefully this will help the loss of leg strength and major pain I've had the last few years. I am almost to the point of needing a wheelchair and surgery is my only option. The hardest part for me is the 6 month recovery time where I'll have an extremely low activity level. If things go well I'll be able to work my desk job (automotive engineer) in 6 weeks. Otherwise it is no BLT (bending, lifting, turning) for at least 6 months.
You have my thoughts and sympathy. Been through similar with a C-5-6-7 fusion and titanium plate install. That was 24 years ago and other than weakness in my left arm from the resulting nerve damage from the initial injury, I have been able to function normally. You will be more immobile than I was but I hear fusion surgery is quite a bit more advanced than when I had it done. Hopefully you’ll be up and feeling much better in a short time. What I was amazed at was when I came out of recovery, the pain I was having was gone. I wish the same for you.
Good thoughts and Prayer being sent. Praying also that God will guide the surgeons that will do the surgery. "God Bless"
You have my family's thoughts and prayers as you go through this. As Korrie said also prayers for the Dr's guidance through the procedure. Please update us as soon as you are able . Rest easy my friend....
Hope all will work out fine for you.Lots of luck in getting better fast,so that you can work on your job,car ,shop, house whenever you want.Bruno.
Thanks to all. Surgery was a success! Leg pain is all gone. Strength will take a while but is better than expected. The only pain is near the incisions. Can't wait until the driving season in April.
So good to hear the pain is gone. That’s no minor surgery you went through. Best wishes for a full recovery.
