67 ST400 switch pitch with the horseshoe pan, do I have to use the early filter again or can I swap it out for a later filter for cheaper and better filtering overall?
You will need the tube that slides into the case if you want to use the more popular and easier to find flat filter.......I dint think anything besides that and the bolt and spacer are needed
It's not hard to drill and tap that hole, but if you permanently put the filter to the tube how do you plan to service it later????
New tube. It’s honestly probably never been serviced before, so I’m guessing it’ll last the rest of the time it exists.
Right, the newer style filter is held in place with a bolt to the valve body. Without it secured, the filter can move around, leak, or possibly fall off of the pickup tube. To use the newer filter properly, the valve body should be drilled and tapped for the filter bolt.
Aw thank you Larry, you’re a hero around here for many reasons. I’ll pm you my address, and I will certainly cover shipping
Beside the above, the later pan is deeper (for the filter) than the heel print pan. I always convert to the newer pan/filter, adding drain at the back edge. Bruce Roe
