Infested.....there's that word again. Didn't a guy early on in this thread say this board was infested with Dodge guys? Lol Sounds like you yearn for the "good old days" Brian. When 200 GS' would be in the car show every year. Those days are gone. Time to evolve. At some point the GN's will be gone too, and so will we. I'd rather spend my time enjoying cool cars instead of hating on something just because it's different.
Yep, I've admittedly not adjusted well to the waning hobby. I don't know if I will ever own another GS or classic car again, but I do admire and respect those who keep 'em shiny or just runnin'. Thank you to those, like yourself, who still do. This may go against the grain too, but as much as I've enjoyed the people in the hobby, I've always gone to BG or other car events to see the cars or even car parts. Less cars, less parts, less reason to go. Especially, when 90 percent of the cars that do show you've seen every single time you go for years on end. Crazy right. Allow me to enhance my earlier suggestion then, how about '61 to '74 non Chevy powered cars? BTW I didn't use the word hate and wouldn't have.
You're definitely right about less cars and parts to see at all these events. Not just a Buick problem though. As these cars and their owners continue to get older that trend will continue.
There's gonna be a lot of cheap muscle in the next 20 years for us young guys. That's my belief in the current trend at least
I miss the rows upon rows of parts vendors (and the ‘dollar trailer’!), but I don’t blame the vendors for choosing to post pics on the web vs. driving, lodging, spreading out tarps, toting, unpacking, sitting, packing and driving again. Patrick
Yea the dollar box was also a huge hit every year. But time and time again the swap meet stuff gets thinner and thinner. I quit selling down there myself. Tired of the work and the years of nothing really getting sold. Ive been throwing it on ebay or the trash after awhile.
I wasn't there the year the KY tax person showed up - but every time I even think of swapping down there again, that pops in my head.
I would think the best way forward would be an ALL GM event, have A separate Class for each GM Division, then break each Division down into maybe 3-4 separate Classes, it would explode in popularity believe me, I went to the All Ford weekend at Beach Bend in September and it was HUGE and Awesome. And the Racing portion would be truly AMAZING and a great showcase of our beloved BBB's!
Personally, I’d rather go to a smaller all-Buick event than be a side lot at a CHEVYCHEVYCHEVYCHEVYPontiacOldsBuickCaddy event. For a lot of reasons. Patrick
Yep. The Dick Miller Oldsmobile event. As a last ditch effort they opened it up to Buicks. Very few showed up and after 2 years of a multi-brand event, it was cancelled altogether.
Lol did someone say dodge guy? The last time I came to this event I brought a skylark with a 440 in it and just never took the hood off. I've been going off n on since 91 I think and I miss the old days.
This was and still is one of the BEST Buick events there is. Why are we talking about making this a multi make event? Any event is as good as WE make it. Make plans to attend next spring, bring your Buick, and have the best time. Bring a friend also. Participation is the key to a successful event. Don't be part of the problem be part of the solution. The hobby is not dying. I have attended a number of events this past year, and attendance is high. I drove my 69 GS 450 miles to the event. Brought a friend with me, and had one of the best times in spite of the weather. I challenge everyone reading this to bring your car to the next GS Nationals!!
I think I watched about an hour, TOTAL, of racing... Everything else was catching up with, meeting, and making new Buick friends, BS'ing, scouring the few, but present, parts vendors, eating, drinking, and catching up on much needed sleep. Also, picking the brains of some of the best Buick restorer's and those "in the know". GS Joe, Duane, Nick (Ivyland), James W, Ajesh, Dave T, and quite a few turbo Buick guys (as I like GN's). Everyone shared their knowledge, shot the breeze, and would have a drink with you. As Dave said above, "one of the best times"...
Would love to see some pics of your '63 sounds pretty cool. And btw I have ran my 01 Regal the last 2 years at the Nats and would like to see more fast 3800 cars there.
