Working on replacing brake hard lines at the proportion valve and due to rust at the rear brake outlet I snapped the rear brake line. BTW I knew that I was replacing the line anyway. When I removed the brake nut at the rear brake outlet the large nut also came out since the brake nut was so rusted on. Now my question is when I removed the large nut there was a rubber seal between the large nut and proportion valve. If you see in the image below, at the outlet to rear brake location you see a black image on top and bottom which is the rubber seal. Where can I get this or should I replace the whole valve?
Gerry thanks for the information but my brake proportional valve doesn't really look like the one for the rebuild kit. As I stated above it has a large nut on for the rear brake line with a seal/o-ring.
Guys I found out this is a bendix 0411 proportion valve for our 71 on Buicks. Seem there are no rebuild kits available, I truly don't want to replace it just because of one seal. Trying to keep it as stock as possible. So the question is ANYONE every replace this seal on the rear brake line large nut or do I need to replace it with a brass replacement. Please let me know.
I contacted musclecarresearch owner yesterday - there is a kit available in form of 5 o-rings . My valve doesn't have any issues other than stain upon flare at the 9/16 thread. Cant think of method to clean that wouldn't interfere with flare seat.- Threads are rusted and if I have to use adapter maybe it will jam hard enough to seal at flare. This is bendix 0411 valve.
Gerry thanks for posting that link. I was not aware of this place and they have several items listed that will assist me with current projects. George, I have always admired the look of your car. Good luck with your project.
George, I have always admired the look of your car. Good luck with your project.[/QUOTE] Gary thanks! My blue 72 GS455 will be my last one I will be getting it back to original! First photo is before I took the front end apart, second is where I am at today!
The ‘67 and ‘72 are my two favorites. Your car looks like a very nice car to start with. Best of luck and please share photos as you have time. It’s always fun seeing projects progress. I would love to hear more about that ‘72 sometime. Except for the low compression ratio, the ‘72s really are the best.
I recently noticed my combination valve has only one threaded port to feed front brakes ..rats! An waiting for feedback from valve guy now.
Larry no low compression in my 72 GS455, the original motor and transmission was missing, it was replaced with a 69 430 BBB 60 over. I am trying to keep it as original looking as possible. This is my goal to make as clean as possible like my 71 GS350 engine compartment.
